This is my least favorite time of year to be at work, not that there's ever a "good" time to lose someone. Just seems like between Thanksgiving and New Years it just sucks more. But yeah, we typically get a few deputies on an OD or cardiac arrest call. If it goes south, they usually have to start a crime scene log whether there's been a crime or not.

 

Hit the grocery store to grab a couple of random items at 5 am. The knucklehead public was out in full force. It's rainy out here which means the ok drivers turn into maniacs competing in Daytona and everyone else is even more clueless than usual. Parking lot was a disaster with a bunch of near accidents, people arguing over parking spots, people driving the wrong way in directional parking slots...This isn't a Black Friday Walmart parking lot either, it's a grocery store! Merry early Christmas folks!

I'm getting two deli sandwiches later this morning. One for today and one for tomorrow. I only eat 1 meal a day on days I don't go to work. Not going outside for the next two days and avoiding all people.

 

I lost my mother 2 days after Christmas 23 years ago. Was totally unexpected and it has forever spoiled the holiday season for me. At the age of 43 and 23 years later it doesn't hurt as much but it is still the first thing that pops into my head when you say Christmas.

Dying is as much a part of living as anything else. You never know when you will lose someone so try and always end the last conversation you have with people on a positive note.

 

It was a year ago this evening we got the second-worst call a parent can ever get - that your kid has been hit head on and is on their way to the hospital. She is doing much better today - her last neurology appointment was last week and she’s got about 90% mobility back in her spine. But it’s definitely tainted the “Christmas
Spirit” for us.

 

Yikes, glad to hear she is mostly recovered. People ask me why I am generally cheerful despite things sucking and I always give them the same response, "It's good to be alive, aches, pains and all".
