The "Flats" are for a wrench. Lot more torque versus an extension.I actually considered buying them, but I have so many damn sockets, it is the one thing i don't need anymore of.

    I have a blue one…
but in my defense, it was my late FIL’s and beggars can’t be choosers.
Now I just need to learn how to actually use it

That's usually how it goes.I actually don't have anything against Miller really. I ran a Miller XMT 350 for awhile in the shop before switching to a Lincoln Flextec 350X. I prefer Lincoln, but Millers are just fine for shop work. For field welding, Lincoln really can't be beat. Most fleets run the Ranger and most contractors have a Vantage.

One of our weld bays. 45,000 SF of fab space - total capacity of ~250,000 DI of pipe weld per year.
    We've got 9 Tip-Tigs, 12 Pipe Worx 400, and 3 Sub-Arc machines. :muscleflexing:

Picked this up today. I hear the supports come loose on most of them. So I am going to drill it for bolts instead of plastic knobs.PXL_20241218_202422547.MP.jpg

Boooooring... get creative. Knives, hatches, chainsaws, shotguns.. heck, even a diaper dispenser if you're at that stage in life - get the kids started young!

When the M18 mower came out, our mower took a dump. So I bough one, dropped it off in front of shop door, and left it there until my kids found it. I have mowed the lawn exactly once since then...

I have a few rc cars we never use. I may just sell them off. The indoor track is 40’ish mins one way, tucked into the deep ghetto so we don’t go.

Two 10T bridge cranes and 30 separate 1T jib hoists for moving shit around too - pretty much every column has a jib crane mounted to it.
$750,000 5-axis automated pipe cutter with a 45-ft feed roll to be able to handle 40-ft randoms from 4” to 48” DIA. We’ve run as big as 78” pipe through the shop, but over 48” requires us to set up modified tooling for the positioners.

A current project has us doing a bunch of 1-1/2” wall 12” DIA 317H stainless.

Lol - not far off. Primary line off a reactor tower at a petro refinery.

Think distilling crude oil into all manner of things (including gasoline, propane, etc.).

Well at least I'm not a horrible guesser... haha.

I did get to walk through a decommissioned nuclear reactor once, though. Well, part of it. I was told that once they flushed the primary coolant tubes, they could go in and read the original pipe fitters markings and notes on the pipes, as the coolant was so non-corrosive that it didn't remove them. That would have been pretty neat to inspect. Guess I'm kind of a nerd.

I drove past Chernobyl once. Very eerie feeling around there.

And then right up the road good ole CA decided to bury their spent fuel in a mountain crumbling into the ocean
    :annoyed:

Have you dove into the personal bite-sized reactor rabbit hole? I’m surprised we don’t have a nuclear thread on here yet

Ok, ok, I'll try not to derail the thread... but one of the coolest things about nuclear reactors is Cherenkov Radiation. I won't spoil it with my lame, poorly worded explanation of it, but it boggles and excites the mind...

    Agree with you on coolness.

I’ll try to get this thread back on track. This is from Ace.

Edit: Nevermind. HD has it too

Also, if you had a choice between the M12 insider or fuel hatchet for Xmas, which would you go with. Have both the 16” saw and m12 ratchet so neither is fully required :D

    haha.

I'd take the Insider. The fuel hatchet looks like a toy to me and I'd wield it as such until I my neighbor comes over and I have a Firemarshall Bill incident..

    Tough call
How much yard debris and wood cleanup type stuff do you end up running into.
I’ve got 5 acres that’s mostly forested - the hatchet gets a LOT of use at my place, despite the fact I’ve got a 14” top-handle M18 saw and a 24” gas saw.
I haven’t gotten a chance to use the inside yet (that should change this weekend), so I can’t compare yet

My vote is for the Insider but that's my personal choice since I wouldn't use the hatchet as much as most people would.

But why not get both? o_O:D

Oh yeah I was looking at that hatchet too since HD had it for around $200? maybe? but with a few gas saws just couldn’t convince myself so I’d go insider. However I also didn’t think I’d use the m18 leaf blower as much as I thought either since I have a couple gassers including a backpack. But dang if it doesn’t come in handy blowing out the shop with much more volume than compressed air. I also use it for pre-drying cars. Big leaf jobs no, but right at the shop door and the driveway it does it fine. I have a ton of oaks so it’s never ending. Side note, I bought the m12 version first on a whim and ended up returning it for the m18. M12 was way too weak for my needs.
Word on the street is Santa’s bringing me an insider
