We have a purina dog food plant in flagstaff that I assume rivals the stank of the paper mill

Grew up outside of Walula, Boise Cascade paper mill. I'd say Walula smells worse than it does here. But it depends on the given day.

Everyone here just says smells like money. I disagree, smells pungent at times but usually not noticable. Potatoes and colons make me money. IMG_1072.jpg

Rain let up a few hours ago. About 5:30 - 8 am the power was out. 40,000+ were without power this morning in Snohomish County. Radar from my phone showed a front that came thru. Photo of radar 5:12 am. Wife said a lighting IMG_8605.png hit the ridge nearby.

Check the build link in my signature.
I worked a lot at that mill in Walula early in my career. Our headquarters is in Longview, WA - there were three separate pulp/paper mills and an aluminum plant at one point here (two of the mills have consolidated into one now). Have also worked at more than a dozen other pulp/paper mills and half dozen paper-only mills over the years.

I can only say that I’ve gotten to know the unique smells of different processes in that industry, and can just about tell you what pulp process they use and whether they are a brownstock mill or a bleached stock mill by the way the area around them smells on a damp windless day.

In the past 20 years there have been a lot of improvements in how much stench they produce.

I'd be willing to be a paycheck that those TX plates would return to a rental company...

I've seen a few 3rd Gens for rent at a local Enterprise, and many rental companies use TX and NV as their home registration states...

I'd hope someone wouldn't be that much of a freakin' douche nozzle in his own rig, but... :notsure:

Reading the posts above... Speak of the devil and he shall appear!

Greetings from Texas. I'm starting to seriously consider moving to the Pasco, WA area. I'm sick of Houston and I have family in Pasco. They keep offering to help me get on my feet, if I make the move, in exchange for doing work around their houses, until I find my own place and a job. I'm thinking I might go back to school for a trade soonish, before I potentially move. I don't know what I want to do yet, but I'm tired of the security industry.

Anyways, I'm curious as to how far I'd have to drive from Pasco, WA to do some fun offroading and camping.
As well as, how many Tundra people we have here, that like to off-road, so I could make some new friends.

If you go east you're looking at 60is miles to the blue mountains. Either Oregon or Washington. Lots of cool forest service roads for exploring. Head even further east and you get to where I'm at now, Tri-State corner of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

Head north or west and you can get into central and western Washington. Lots of cool places to check out.

But there is also the Juniper dunes pretty close to the Tri-Cities as well.

Perry tech is a great tech school in Yakima, about a hour west of Pasco. I can confirm eastern Washington is much better than Houston I was down there a couple years ago and couldn’t wait to get home.

I visited WA for the first (and only) time two Septembers ago. Flew into Seattle and rented a 4Runner, then drove to Pasco. It was pretty nice

Warm and sunny, no humidity like you probably have now. Winters are usually mild that far in southern WA. You might see snow a few times a year.
@Rabidllamas is a Tri-Cities guy, he could probably give some more insight.
    Good luck! :fistbump:

You'd be surprised. It's been cold and humid this week. Houston is always humid.

Winters are mild compared to other places but you only need to drive 1.5 hours to hit mountains for skiing/etc. In the summer those mountains are great to explore like what was mentioned on the forest service roads (I do not do much of that). Summers get hot but no humidity so it is not too bad. Winters we get inversions so the clouds just sit here and temp is like 35 degrees for weeks with no sun. We get little rain but it all comes in the winters. You mentioned security and the big deal around here is the Hanford nuclear area. We have one reactor that makes electricity. The history of the area is we helped make the first nuclear bomb….Thus why a local high school is called the Richland Bombers and the old mascot was the Mushroom cloud. Lots of Gov’t type jobs connected to it because now it is all about the clean up of these old reactors that have been shut down for 50+ years. The Hanford area security has been striking and they may have a new contract any second now. Then we have all the Tech/scientist/engineers/contractors type jobs that spins off from the Hanford area. We do not call it the Lazy H Ranch for nothing….sorry if I offended some people, just jealous. Lots of farming type jobs and food processing (what I do) in the area. Big wine area also.
