I know I'm getting old when I didn't realize all the hip kids are using "Shaky" instead of "Shady" now...

LOL. I actually meant to type "Shady".....damn auto correct.

Thanks for your thoughts, folks. It appears about 50/50...some find this practice intrusive, and others don't.

It would be a boring world, if we all thought alike.

Rookies. When dropping off, I tell them to send a person to the waiting room as I don't have my phone. Worked for the last three visits.

EDIT: I should add, no spam texts, a single text with the link to the hatcam footage of the work performed.

Yes, I have had several dealers do this over the past 10+ years now when I take them in for service (Honda/toyota). Last time I took my Tundra in I got the text and said "sure, tell me what you will pay for it" and they responded "We'll have it for you when you pick it up". When it wasn't there, I messages back "I didnt get your offer" and got no responce at all to that and several more I sent them saying "uhm, hello?" (I was honestly just giving them shat for the poor customer service that I have gotten all around at that dealer).

I like that approach, and will probably use it when I return. Thanks.

I bought my Tundra new-from-the-dealer in December of 2016. I have NEVER had any service done at that dealer. Or any Toyota dealer. I still, once a month, get a phone call (don't answer it) and subsequent voice mail to come in for some sort of service this. Service that. Swipe left: DELETE. And then back to rockin' out to Zeppelin Physical Graffiti.

And now my lawyer asked me to say this: YMMV.

    Touche.

sorry man, read the fine print, just cuz you live somewhere else vs another individual, doesnt exclude you from the fine print, go ahead and try to say that in a court of law

and dunno where you have been for the past 20 years since dealers started doing this when everyone got cell phones in the 2000s

Sorry man, but they haven't been doing it the past 20 years at the dealerships I go to.

Maybe it just a sign of the times. I've never seen a Toyota dealership's sales floor as dead as it was the day I was there. On the other hand, the service department was rocking. Nearly every seat in the service waiting area was occupied. I guess if you don't have any willing buyers coming thru the door, you might as well solicit whoever you can.

Maybe those desperate salesman should start hounding people in the nearby Wally World parking lot.

I would imagine there could be a difference in major markets / larger dealerships versus the smaller ones in how they approach this.

On a related note, I finally had to tell the service rep. at the dealership my truck came from, 6 hours away, that I will NOT be taking the truck there for service now, or at ANY time in the future, and to stop calling / texting me with service reminders.

Let face it - Dealers are in the business to make money. Sometimes they do unethical things, or what some would call unethical. Business is business. Just hope they put your driver seat back in the position you left it!
