Complete Audio System Kits?

One set of the Focal's I'm using. The other set are the 6.5's and separate tweeters

My previous 2015 Tundra I had a full aftermarket stereo install. I still retained the stock head unit by using the taco tunes jbl factory harness kit. I replaced the front and rear speakers with taco tunes 6 1/2" door mounting plates. I had Focal KRX2 6 1/2" components and tweeters in the front and rear doors. I had a Taco Tunes ported box behind the seat with 2x 10" Image Dynamics dual voicecoil subs. I had a JL Audio HD 750/1 for the subwoofers as a JL Audio HD 600/4 for the Focal components. I had a sound processor that was provided and installed by taco tunes. I also had sound mat installed through out the truck. The stereo sounded great! I still like the imaging quality of the Focals on an aftermarket head unit over the factory. IMO the line output is a lot better with aftermarket head unit and the Focals get to reach their full potential. I decided to sell all my stereo equipment recently though.

What do you figure you total cost was?

 

I had around $6k in the audio equipment. The Focal KRX2 components were $1,000 per set at the time.

 

Is there a sub-woofer that will fit behind the rear seat of a DC? I'd like to up grade my system as well but I don't want to loose the cargo space under the rear seat by putting a sub there.

 

Not that I'm aware of. On my previous 2010 Tundra DC I had a box below the seat with two 10" subs.

 

So both of you did 4 tweeter setups but put 2 in the front and 2 in the back? I currently have 4 tweeters in the front on my stock system and was thinking about keeping that. They are in the corner of the dash and the sail panels. I was thinking about getting a 4 way amp and using it to run 6.5's and tweets in the door/sail panel and another pair of tweets in the dash (hitting the windshield glass). I would probably just run some coaxial in the rear doors powered off the factory amp. I'm keeping my stock HU. Do you think that's overkill in the front?

 

It really does come down to personal preference. I like the tweeters in my face lol, wife can't stand it. So when shes in the truck I just keep it real low, she doesn't like the base either..

Nope, whatever the factory amp is giving them. Everything is stock except the bass. I removed the factory sub and installed an amp and two 12's. It definitely helped the system out bigtime, but I'd eventually like more highs.

I like tweets in my face too, lol. That's why I figured 4 of them in the front would really scream.

 

I dunno man, with just the 2 infinity tweeters in the front if I go over 30 on the volume it makes me wince like i'm getting a root canal, semi painful but also smile inducing.

With the Infinity Kappa 60.11cs'? I just looked them up and they are more reasonably priced than the MB Quarts I was using in my last 3 cars. Are you totally happy with them? How much power are you running to them. Upgrading front speakers and amp is on my want to do list, but so is a bunch of other things.
So many mods.........so little $$$$.

 

I am totally happy with them. I'm running about 80 watts via a MB Quart DSC 480 4 channel amplifier which is more than enough.

 

How about your Subwoofer boxes? What are you all using in the CrewMax?

I just installed the OEM audio+ full system last weekend (speakers, amp, sub, tweets). I wanted as plug and play as possible, and they had the shortest lead time when I ordered. From start to finish it took me 4 hours, including a few smoke breaks, and slicing a finger open getting that foam insulation off the tweeter plugs to expose the pin lock (re-pinning the tweeter connector is the ONLY thing that is not literally plug and play.) I wanted something with more clarity than stock with a small dedicated sub, and also took up up as little storage room as possible. For me, this system met my criteria perfectly. I probably could have gotten better for less, but I'm satisfied with the purchase and the sound quality.

How is you volume setting since you did the upgrade, I use XM and it seems to need twice as much volume as regular radio or a cd at be at the same volume. just wondering if this system corrects that in any way. It looks like a nice system and like you just want a better sound while still keeping the head unit and remaining somewhat stock.

 

On my way to work this morning, I equalized all of the treble, bass, etc settings and set CD and XM to the same volume. I had to crank the XM about 6 to 8 ish notches higher (different styles of music) to get the same volume as CD. I don't listen to radio, since I have a stubby antenna and our radio stations here blow pretty hard. IIRC from a while back, its better than stock, but still a difference. I hope this helps. I'm still very happy with the system and I mostly listen to XM myself.

Yes

If you are looking for sound studio quality, this comes close (for a truck). A LOT louder than stock it is not, but the quality is much improved, and the extra bass is much welcomed (the sub can get pretty loud, my friend said he almost thew up in the back seat sitting on the sub at full tilt, and he's an audiophile) and the clarity helps. I listen to mostly metal, and I've noticed a lot of little things I was used to in my old car (WRX with a DIY $2k stereo) I also used some thin dynamat type material I bought off of Amazon. I only did the doors, since I plan on doing the rear "firewall" when I do the rear seat fold down mod when it warms up a bit. As i stated in my above post, you could do better for less or the same amount of money. You could not do better as far a PNP OEM integration, IMHO. I also did not want to forfeit storage space since I have a double cab.

Glad I found this post, I have ben looking at the OEM Audio+ kit for a while. Seems as though you are happy with it. My 2017' 1794 has the factory subwoofer which IMHO is just about useless. The clarity and bass is what I am looking for form the OEM Audio+. How would you rate the bass coming from your last system. I had a JL 12" in my previous tundra (07' DC limited with JB audio) with the rest of the system bone stock and it sounded great huge bass.

Is there a provision on the OEM Audio+ system for a separate bass control knob? Had that on several past systems and used it all the time
