Whatever this forum told me to do
    agreed.
Amazon is WAY too awesome to not use.
I ordered a Blue Heron decoy thing....and it was there the SAME DAY.

FTR - my Heron don't give a single shit (pun intended) about the flashy noise-making electronic countermeasure piece of shit.

next step heron decoy - They say herons are territorial & dislike other herons.
+ the motion sensing water sprinkler thing.

see the little red dot? that's the flashy anti-bird thing.
apparently, they pose in front of it to take a shit.

This sounds like the fancy version of how my dad used to put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator in his Matrix if it was going to be really cold.

Man I feel it too. I’m just so used to everything being available on Amazon with two-day shipping.

If you want to support local, you’ve got to start your shopping much earlier. Give that mom and pop shop a chance to order what you need and get it to you by Christmas.

The comfort with and reliance upon ultra-fast “free” shipping benefits BezosMart.

Amazon is increasingly terrible for sellers. They’ll cancel you if you have a lower advertised price anywhere else online, even if those other places have lower costs that allow you to sell for a lower price.

I don't buy as much as I used to from Amazon but still place an order once every couple of months. I cancelled my prime account a few years back as they weren't keeping their 2-day shipping promise on orders. I don't really care about the other features of prime so once the shipping stopped being done as advertised and the membership kept increasing in price I cancelled.

The other thing that has turned me off of Amazon is counterfeit products. With 3rd party sellers being the norm counterfeit products have grown a lot. I worked with someone who used to work at a distribution center and he warned me that even sold by Amazon items themselves were at risk of being counterfeit as the 3rd party inventory would get mixed with Amazon inventory at distribution centers and you got whatever the person threw in the box. I guess this is the "fulfilled by Amazon" tag on some items that are technically being sold by others but stored and shipped by Amazon.

It's also turned into a AliExpress junkfest. For every search of something I toss in there I get 75% AliExpress resellers listings I have to sort through before I get to the things I want and then ensure it is actually being sold by Amazon themselves and not "fulfilled by Amazon".

I know, first world problems and all that but it has actually pushed me toward other retailers whose websites and products are easier to navigate and less at risk of getting counterfeit items.

Yeah, maybe next year. I have gone to 4 speciality stores now looking for a gift. So I ordered what I wanted from Amazon in the parking lot of the last store.

    I tried. I’m done…

Yes to all of that. I wish I could cancel my Amazon account but my wife still orders stuff 2-3 times a month. The counterfeit and crap search returns are the worst.

My momma is from Pittsburgh, PA. I am born and raised in FL. We had sun tea a lot, added sugar before cooling. Now we avoid it for plastic reasons.. thats another story though.

Anyway, one fun thing about living in the southern most unsouthern state is the melting pot of influences. I see a lot of things I think are southern but then need to go north a bit to make sure it is.

Side note to that, I remember when I went West for college and asked for sweet tea the first time. I had some confused reactions for sure.

This is why I have been on the fence about cancelling. My issue is where I live now. my only local stores are dollar generals unless I want to drive to walmart 30 minutes away. any other stores you would know the names of are an hour plus away. So Amazon fills that void when driving isnt in the mix. But I am over their bs.

I'll support local, until they tell me they need to order it in and it'll be weeks. If it needs to be ordered, I'll just cut out the middle man and order it myself. I live in a town of under 80,000 in the back northern corner of my province too, so selection isn't great. :(

I get it. It's too convenient to not support them. You have to be super intentional about it. I'm not good at it, either. But Amazon is really frustrating in its own way, especially this year.

I've had countless deliveries miss their target arrival date, and my ad-free Prime movies/shows are no longer ad-free, even though the cost of Prime keeps going up.

I will say Amazon def has made me lazy over the years..just pure convenience. I order way too much shit. Here’s a perfect example/ found an old (like 2008 old) Toshiba laptop ina cabinet. I asked the wife why tf we have this still? She said she needs a charger to charge it up to load up pix of the kids onto a drive. 5 mins later, I ordered a new charger (cheap too) on Amazon..it’ll be here this week.

Our smallest dog loves warmth; Like she’ll sit in a heated blanket the wife uses all day if she can. I went on Amazon yesterday and ordered a decent heated dog bed that will be here today.

I do not order anything like Milwaukee from Amazon as fear of counterfeit product

Houston Mexican food is probably the best.

We keep a case of the Liter bottles of Mexican Coke by the fridge.

our ops mgr replenishes about every 2 months.

    and sweet tea is nasty.

proper sweet tea is a simple sugar bomb. hat tip to the fella that makes it with hot water. proper.

To be nice about it, DFW for the win across the board.

LOL, love that part for you!

And I now agree. I quit drinking sweet tea when in Fort Worth. Transitioned to tea and was very happy about it. I grew up with the "tea so sweet it will make a horseshoe stand up" type stuff. But now, I am caffeine free so it is irrelevant for me.

I don't make it down to Houston often, and haven't eaten Mexican food there since I was a kid (Gregory's in Pearland), but I have to agree that Mexican food in DFW is great. I guess Mi Cocina is everywhere, but Mexican Sugar in Plano and Cantina Laredo (not as good as they used to be, but...) are great for small chains. Any random taqueria is gonna work out well, though. But when we're in Texas, can we just call it food? It's been here the whole entire time, so it's not like some ethnic food shipped in from another country. It's Texas food as much as barbecue and sweet tea (not sweetened tea).

I'm with you here. I've stopped ordering a lot from Amazon, but my wife still tends to order things at least monthly. So until she slows her roll we're in the prime zone. I have noticed if I do order stuff from them on my seperate Amazon account that they offer a free month of prime. However, there's no such thing as 2 day shipping and that's one of my biggest gripes with prime's false advertising.

I agree. When i use a spanish word with my son I tell him its Texan. or Texan for "insert word."

Whenever people learn I come from there, they ask me about the Mexican food before the BBQ.
