Hi everyone, I need some help troubleshooting this issue as it's stumping me and I couldn't find a thread with the same issue I'm experiencing (Although...my wife would say I'm not good at finding things I'm looking for...).

We have a 2012 Sequoia Limited with a 5.7L engine. two days ago the engine just shut off while my wife was driving it. I met her on the side of the road and drove it home and it did the same thing to me (twice). After tinkering with it, It's shut down ~7 times in the last few days. Below are more details:

    • The engine shuts down and the power steering is turned off. This seems to happen after it's warmed up for a few minutes (It happens within a couple of miles of our house).
    • Nothing else seems to be affected. There is no sputtering or noise to identify/report.
    • There is no electrical power loss and the dash returns to the 'ignition switch on' (key in and one click) showing all of the dash lights to ensure they are working.
    • The check engine light doesn't come on. I ran an OBDII test and there weren't any fault codes reported.
    • The maintenance warning message doesn't display.
    • I checked the oil and coolant levels and they are good. The gauge shows the
    • I filled up the gas tank and threw in some lucas injector cleaner.
    • The battery is brand-new (installed last week) and the voltage is strong and I watched the battery shop run a load on it before installing it.
    • I checked every fuse under the hood and they all check out.
    • I also checked the air intake hoses which I saw was an issue in one of the forum threads. They are solidly connected.

What am I missing? Is there a relay I can replace? The irony of this is that JUST THE DAY BEFORE THIS HAPPENED, I told my wife how thankful I am that this car has been so reliable for us (Still am - I might get a Toyota tattoo... if I can figure this issue out). Thanks!

Yes, sorry forgot to mention that. I yanked on all three connection points and they are solid. I pray it turns back to a POS!

If it shuts down just like turning off the ign key, I would be looking at electrical issues or the ecu itself. If it stops like it ran out of gas (i.e. rough for a bit before shutting down, I would be looking at the fuel pump or fp module.

I'll say cam or crank sensor or rodent damage someplace.

My $0.02 bet is on FPMC (fuel pump control module), as already mentioned. Around $50 for Chinese fork on Amazon/ebay.

I mean there are a million things that could be happening... when does it shut off? While driving?

Have you checked for codes? Have all the DTCs passed? If theyre reset everytime it dies, you're losing voltage to the ecm; when you go to start it after it dies, does it crank right up or does it crank for awhile? When it does start, does it start and immediately die (they do this while the ecm does a check of the system)?

Air intake tube on tight? No loose hose clamps?

Yes, I have it. What I don't have is an idea how I will be removing the old one in the field, when it's all covered in frozen mud. The truck is apparently designed in Texas where ice belongs to freezers ;)

It's quite accessible. It's just that it is mounted on the frame by the rear wheel and I always find it completely covered in a frozen mud blob. Can't even disconnect it if need arise.

UPDATE/RESOLUTION - I gave up and sent it to the local shop. The fuel pump was dying and is being replaced. Thanks all for the help.
