Perfect timing. Wife and I both tagged early this season, but we consider the 19th to be THE day for whitetail buck movement in this country.... Most of our best bucks were taken on that specific day.

It was looking good below elk river. Lots of movement. See what we get for snow this next week. Looks like it's going to be a good amount potentially.

He is just as eat up as I was at that age, but I did not have the opportunity he has now. He got his first one at 5 and has braved the cold and lack of sleep ever since! I hope he to will pass it down to his kids.

BB, quick story......I saw another cow elk out there at low light that was very wary. She was calf-less and very hesitant to join the others.
I'd estimate that she was at least 50% larger than this old gal and many of the others in the herd. She was absolutely gigantic in size, at first I thought she was a huge old bull until I gazed through my bincs and saw her antlerless head. I couldn't believe a cow elk could reach such enormity.

She's probably ten years old and only got so large due to her instincts for survival. This pictured cow elk for context is probably 4-5 years old. To my knowledge that old gal is still running around. She'll likely succumb to old age before getting shot.

Years ago was on a hunt in Montana. Watched the herd cow walk right up to the herd bull. She was a lot darker and looked a full 30% bigger than the 7x6 herd bull. Though that big herd cow looks like a lot of meat, best to leave them alone, their instincts are good for the herd, and I've been told that due to their age they don't eat worth a darn anyway.
