I always get the RTR so I'm not sure about batteries, I just use what comes with em. I do have a favorite transmitter though.

so you just run the NIMH and not the Lipo upgraded deal?

Thats (NiMH) what comes with both the gorgan and the granite voltage

I don't mind the NIMH as long as the run time isn't like 5-6 mins, thats weak.

I love the granite too! Lipo is the only way to go. They arent that expensive but the performance is light years better. A small 2s lipo provides so much better quality run time than any nimh

what set up do I need for those ?

seems hard to pass that voltage up since it s half the cost of the gorgan right now , too bad it wasn’t the nicer 4wd one , ha!

Totally. Look up what size lipo will fit in the granite. It will work fine on either battery you just change a setting

An RC buddy down the street was looking up in a tree a while back, it seems he had to have a flying machine and in the matter of about 30 minutes on a gusty day he put his into the Oak Tree.
He has not hit a house or car yet but has wiped out when hitting a few mailboxes (we have those that are in brick at the curbs!), curbs, runoff drain covers and surrounding concrete, and fire hydrants!!
I do get a laugh when he explains what his latest wipeout has been like when I miss one here and there!!!:) HA!

thanks, its just for my 8 year old boy, so Im just wanting to stay stock. I do want to be able to get parts if something breaks thought, thats the problem I ran into with his one he has now, great truck but the diff is stripped in the front.

I think Im going with the granite voltage one thats on sale for 79 bucks.

Does anybody know anything about these batteries from Smart Technologies?

    https://www.horizonhobby.com/produc...-smart-lipo-g2-hard-case-ic3/SPMX52S50H3.html

    good or fire hazard ?

the FAQ for that truck, horizon says this is the one that fits

    Alot of them
The problem with belted tires is that gearing often has to be changed due to the tire weight and motor heat.

Never have had that problem, but,,,, as far as heat we always check them and have fans on the motors that need them plus we run them in the mornings.

Yes you need a smart charger, I just had to get one for the moyorcycle batteries. There is also a setting you can go to and and adjust the hours that they automatically drain themselves to a storage voltage

    i bought the s155 g2 smart

it is an automatic charger, plug it in and not much of mashing any buttons, it does it on its own

ok, I wanted to thank everyone here for the help. Here's what I wound up with

    Horizon Hobby

Arrma granite voltage, black - 79.99
    diff outdrives (2 sets) - 9.98
    adapter Tam to EC3 - 6.99

I then had a coupon for 10% off all that and another coupon for free shipping, so all of the above shipped for $95 bucks

    Amazon - all free shipping

NIMH Charger from Tenergy - 23.99

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003MXMJX8?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

    2 Pack - 5,000 MAH Zee NiMH batteries - 40 (with coupon )

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2NQKWVP?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

so all in all, I think this will be a good set-up for him and not breaking the bank and much less chance to burn down the house. I think this will be pretty good for a budget full set-up.

lastly, unlike the Hoxboxing one he has now, (which was good) but they have parts if we need them

thanks, I decided to avoid all the Lipo thing for now for him, too much to worry about. NIMH is much less of an issue, obviously not 0 but way less.

the lipo dealy is blown out of proportion. As with anything you get what you pay for. One thing I have found out is do not buy anything foreign when it comes to batteries. When they go bad a person has to jump thru hopes take pictures and run an ohm meter all at once. Then they do not replace the battery if it goes bad they refund the cost leaving you with an odd battery! :(

Now I get batteries at the hobby shop or online if they are backed by the hobby place i order them thru.

Anyone that is sold by the sight and backed by them. A local hobby shop or Horizon Hobby is a good place and I see you have them listed above. Smart Batteries are a good choice along with Spektrum I think would be a good choice.

Those dang Zee batteries are cheap enough but I had one go bad and dealing with them on overseas time meant a day or two lang time plus instead of telling me EVERYTHING!!! they needed they would add on when I completed a task.
I ended up having to take pictures of it on the charger, pictures of it on the ohm meter, and all the ordering documentation. I suppose you cant blame them but to me they came off like I was trying to steal from them. I did not like their attitude, and the time it took getting a response. They are on Japan or china time???:)

did you have their LiPo or nimh ?

I’ll maybe go back around and take another look, but they did get really good reviews

the largest horizon said they carry that will fit was 2400 mah which isn’t much more than stock, but I found the actual battery compartment size now so maybe I’ll double check them

most cells are made in China unfortunately, better ones for my flashlights were Japan like AW

    thanks for the feedback

It was a Lipo,, they get good reviews because they are cheap, and i would almost bet that dome of them are made up. I think I even gave them a couple stars but then I wanted to tell my story of getting a refund and it would not let me on.
Also try Lectron Pro and see what they have to offer. Our local hobby shop backs these in their shop.

Also look at Victory Hobby facebook page i am sure they ship and they are top notch. Family operated. I deal with the son who has been into RC stuff his whole life. He took apart my wrecked totaled Felony and put most everything new on a new frame, he could have done it blindfolded I believe!

I've had a few ZEE lipo batteries in my granite voltage and they've been fine for me. Harder to fit in the battery tray, but the performance over the stock battery is huge.
