John at IPT said a built VB may save a transmission that has p2757, p2714 and a couple others. I had the p2757 and p2714.

    A quote from John:

“AB60 Code info on P2717, P0748. P0776 and P2757 (possibly with other solenoid performance codes as well):
I promised to get into this topic today so here it is.
P2714 followed by P0748, P0776, or P2757 are a result of the transmission computer not seeing a shift occur within parameters- in other words, it compares the input speed sensor reading with the output speed reading and 'knows' when the gear ratio changes, i.e. when the shift is completed. *Note that this particular unit has absolutely no way to directly measure line pressure through a transducer or any other means aside from shift length- from command to completion.
These codes are often a result of a transmission that is failing (burnt/glazed clutches), however, pressure control solenoids (SLT) often wear out on these as well.
The shift solenoid codes are typically not from bad solenoids but from the 'assumption' made by the computer that the shift isn't happening quickly enough or not happening at all, they would be better off considering them 'gear ratio errors', but hey, I'm not the guy that writes their software.
Line pressure is relevant to this issue so:
At idle in D one should see 50-65 psi and 170-195 psi at stall (wot)
In R its 80-95 psi at idle and 220-255 psi at stall (this is with an unmodified factory valve body)
It doesn't hurt to check this if you can. Low pressure or slow shifts detected by the computer are the chicken, the codes are the egg and typically are 'false or ghost' codes.
The fix is sometimes a full rebuild with a new pressure control solenoid (SLT) and a valve body modification (this if the clutches have burned already).
At other times, a valve body modification along with a new SLT solenoid can fix the issue, at least for a while, as it works to speed up shift times and puts them back within the parameters that the computer likes to see. I never guarantee this as a fix but I have certainly done this with success.
With that all said, an IPT valve body is forever. If a transmission fails at any time after our service (it can be years later), we credit the valve body modification to the price of a transmission build with us, as it is included and I don't charge people twice for the same thing.”

We have access to the entire calibration, not just what commercial users have.

if there’s specific changes you’d like made, we can port that into a calibration without those parameters defined. And provide you a file that you can then build off of.

This would be amazing! So it would be possible to port in shift schedules and torque management undefined into my current calibration?

Just received update from Toyota. They said new fluid checked out and is at the proper level. They offered a remanufactured transmission/labor at $3500 even. Was considering going built but this seems to good of an offer to pass up now.

Right?!? You guys have awesome dealerships. Mine won’t even call me back to talk about performing work unless they write a five-figure estimate!

For 3500, I’d take them up on that. But that’s me.

So what is your opinion on hard parts vs software for managing the transmission? My VB parts just showed up but I’m not having any issues with the transmission save one or two peculiarities that only happen under specific, predictable circumstances. I decided on the VB kit for longevity reasons, not to fix issues. Of course, maybe the VB is worn in spots and could be benefit from being worked over.

Being one of the ECU iD’s without access to line pressures and such, I assumed you didn’t have access either. Glad my assumption was wrong. :)

Retail on the reman AB60F is $3593. Throw in a 20 - 25% discount (I get 25% at my dealer) and there’s plenty of room for labor there.

Unsure how relevant this is, but Toyota runs the line pressure (at least at the measurement point in one out of the four measured) a bit higher in USA Land Cruiser models with the AB60F. The test with higher pressure is line pressure in drive (D) at torque converter stall with the throttle fully depressed. 2310 rpm + /- 200 rpm in the Tundra, 2400 rpm +/- 200 rpm in the Land Cruiser. All other measurements are pretty much the same. Extrapolating one measurement point to rest of the table probably isn’t wise, but perhaps an indication that Toyota built the Land Cruiser to higher durability standard (obviously), part of which is in the ECU tuning that we might be able to use.

Mechanical gauge installed in the test port, set the ebrake, chock the wheels, and stomp the throttle to the floor for no more than 5 seconds.

I wonder if a local transmission shop would know. I know that one of the shops around me has a full gauge set for testing pressures with the transmission still in the car. But it may be for domestic vehicles only as that’s all I’ve seen them use it on. Also, most shops I’ve seen don’t want to touch our transmissions, but instead default to ‘needs a new one’. But I think that’s changing a little now that domestics have moved away from the bread and butter Turbo 350/4l60, C6,AOD, and torqueflight transmissions designed in the 50’s and 60’s with which most shops have multi-generational experience.

When the transmission in my 2010 Crewmax died, the best shop in town said nope not touching that rebuild, get one from a junkyard & we'll happily install it. I got one from LKQ from a '18, they installed it.

I couldn't get a picture of it, but it looks like a 1/8", probably bspt similar to the oil pressure plug. I should have an adapter, and the 2000PSI sensor is the same price as the 500PSI sensor, so I'll probably just order the 2000 and see what I can get going.
