Did this a while ago now, but when I bought my truck a month ago, the front bumper didn’t have a way to affix the license plate. The premade brackets designed to go on the hawse fairlead either wouldn’t work due to it being recessed, or weren’t appealing to me since they stuck out a lot. Instead of $50 for something I didn’t really like, I paid 6.99 to get these little c-clamps and painted them black. There’s a little Velcro between the plate and the bumper to prevent scratches, and some foam tape between all the other metal to metal contact points. I think it turned out pretty good, without clashing with the off-road design of the bumper.
    D7675761-658F-4B74-98F9-1BB4C2826986.jpg

Sure I could have left the plate off, but in California it’s just a waiting game for a headache I don’t need.

One more from me today, Just now finished hooking up the lights on my new rear bumper. This was my first time doing anything like that, it was a fun learning experience.
    75167FF6-B5B1-4C08-BE74-DF39109BAC70.jpg

Added a button to the panel, the blue doesn’t match the rest of the orange backlights unfortunately. And the button sits a little recessed even when not pressed
    75A9E694-7843-4186-86B6-390ACE7FDCD4.jpg

Used a fuse tap to plug in to the ACC circuit, so the button turns on and off with the truck. Came through the firewall by just pushing around the grommet, rather than cut it.
    34142981-1EAB-4970-A980-60613B7A225B.jpg

The relay leads for the battery were very short, so it had to be mounted closer than I’d have preferred.
    7E4C8EBB-5057-4A53-936F-539990769EB8.jpg

Was definitely a fun little project, and I learned a lot from the process. Took a lot of wire to get to the back of the truck, more than I expected.

I would highly suggest the relay be moved under the dash or replaced with a weatherproof relay. A non-weatherproof relay will eventually get corrosion and buildup between the contacts and cause a parasitic drain and possibly uncontrolled activation of the circuit.

I appreciate the tip, as I said this was my first experiment with electrical in a vehicle.

todays project was replacing the super faded and non-working tailgate latch/lock. Put in a metal handle, I wish the whole thing was metal not just the lever.

No worries. That's how most kits are sent pre-wired. The majority of people don't even think about it until they are chasing their tails because their battery dies overnight. I learned that lesson when my dual trumpet air horn started blasting on its own.

Cleaned the engine a little. Got tired of looking at dirty hoses. Folks, keep your hoses clean. Clean hoses are happy hoses. After that, I'm done for a couple days, that was painful.

Heatwave here today and all the car washes were full or broken. So I did a quick salt rinse and rotated my tires. I put copper anti-sieze on my wheel studs and wheel mating surfaces. Also kroil on my suspension component bolts because these original shocks need to be replaced.

Don't go too heavy on the wheel studs. I used copper on my trailer, both wheels damned near fell off.

Vacuumed, wiped off all the dust from the summer, wiped the hard surfaces with armor all, cleaned windows, washed. Realized I forgot to turn off my solar controller before I disconnected my battery, fried the controller.

Wait why do you need to disconnect the solar controller first? And where do you have your solar panel mounted?

The controller I had was the lowest one that Renogy sells. Pretty much their giveaway controller, a 10a pwm. If you don't disconnect it first, it has no protections built in. Second one I've killed. First was a learning experience that got me to put in a switch since my controller is behind the back panel. This one was a learning experience to install one with internal protections.
Panel is mounted on the roof platform.

Home made trailer? Got enough power there from all that solar I'm surprised you only have a 10A controller.
But that's just the truck then? What do you power in the truck?

Lots of solar on the trailer because I am usually in the trees and have to move the ground panels around. Trailer has a 100a controller.
Truck has single panel 100w panel and 10a controller. That is to keep the battery topped up because if I am working on the road, I am using my CB and VHF radios.

Ahhh I see, I was looking at their marine controller that’s 20a I believe, benefit being its waterproof

I’ve wanted to put a panel on mine, but it’s a regular cab so no roof rack and I think my tent is too wavy to mount it there, might go straight on the roof

I was just looking at the marine controller. I need to check the model numbers as it seems they are swapping some of the chargers to positive ground.

Took the door panels, vapor barriers, window weatherstripping, and vent visors off. Cleaned window rails, windows, inside of the doors and weatherstripping. Taking it in on Friday to get the windows tinted and figured she'd like to not deal with multiple years worth of FSR dust.
Window weatherstripping started to fall apart when I was removing it, so I will be ordering new ones for all 4 doors.
Holy crap the inside of the doors were dirty.
