Took three telephone calls over three days but got the CV axle boot kit ordered. Apparently their computer system screwed up and cancelled my internet order. Should have it here Monday.

Not as red as Tickle, but a bunch of self tappers were involved. I actually used stainless bolts where it mounts to the fender, so that kind of balances it out.
I didn't have cable, but I found a "way" to watch that series for a while... if just to see how funny/drunk Tickle would be.

Yeah got some onsale mobile full synthetic. But double the price to not have to swap a rear main may be worth considering if M1 seems have the seal conditioner.

Heyyyyy quick question here, about to drop the rear axle from both leaf springs, any reason I’d need to do just one at a time?

like, keeping one sides leafs U-bolted to the axle so it doesn’t move backward or side to side or something?

the jack under the axle has everything snugged up and in place right now, I’m just an amateur mechanic and am worried I’m seconds away from causing a lot more work

No worries from a rear axle alignment standpoint. The pins will center it on the new leafs. I personally just did one side at a time so I didn’t end up wrestling with any of it, rotating and what not.

What are you trying to do? Im an amateur mechanic as well but Ive done struts and leafs back there and I always did one side at a time. I didnt see any reason/benefit to dropping the whole axle and every instruction I read stated to do one at a time. Dont know what it would cause if you did drop the whole axle but I guess it could make things more difficult if it didnt line up correctly anymore.

I've heard more than one person say it's easier to do one side at a time.

I mean, in all honesty, if you drop the axle out of the way, then mount up both of the leaf packs, then lift the axle up to the leaf springs, it seems like it would be way less finagling.

The unfortunate part about doing one side at a time is you are limited on all the space you have available. I was able to get it done (it's how I've always done it), but there was a lot of lifting/dropping the axles with other jacks to be able to wedge the leaf pack in.

I've done it one side at a time when I've done it. You may not run into this issue, but it helped me to keep the axle aligned when re-installing. Also, it creates a bit of a lever and drops one side further so you have more room to work. Good luck!

I would have gone this route but I’m limited in my number of available jacks haha. Im halfway there

One side at a time was great, the axle gives me a place to rest the leafspring, which is really heavy! I appreciate the lever.

Yeah it's 150a. Not sure how much of a difference it makes but I still need to replace the negative terminal. The voltmeter is moving around a lot more than I'm comfortable with.

I did both at once and kind of wish I hadn't. With the right setup it might be better, but with limited equipment and one person, I think one at a time is better. Once you have both off, the axle is just kind of flopping around back there...

Brought home a new chest freezer to store game, and picked up some very heavy duty saw horses along the way, to rest the truck camper on. Guess my plastic tailgate handle was feeling old and brittle, and the saw horses must have been resting with more weight on the tailgate than I thought. Pulled the handle, heard a snap, handle went floppy. Another project.

Not today, but yesterday replaced the 24f battery I had installed temporarily (4 years ago...) with a 27f.

One from a local parts house, down the street from the shop. FMP/factory motor parts, they just label one made by the big 3. Just a normal lead acid.

    What’s the difference?

I replaced my 24f a couple years ago with a 27f, really just because the number was bigger and it fits. Did the “cold weather package” get the bigger battery?

Slightly larger and more capacity (think Amp hour, not actual cranking amps).

Pro tip: use your trucks OEM bottle jack to help lift the spring and be an extra pair of hands. Mount one side, I find hanger side was easier, then move jack to the other side and lift the other end of the spring into place, bolt it up. Gas tank side is the worst. Once both sides are bolted in, use floor jack to life axle up to the leaf pack and u-bolt it. Easy peasy.

I've been wondering...I remember when my Tacomas door handles hit their expiration date. I went aftermarket to avoid OEM expense. I think after replacing the handles about once a year from there on, I finally added up costs and decided OEM was worth it after all...
