I've used it previously, it's been around for a while. Several oils have the same mileage claims (Amsoil sig., M1 extended, etc.) I still change it at 3-4k regardless.

Well I've ran mobile1 for about 10k with no issues (that I can tell, just the usual cam tower leak and VVT noises at 200k miles). I don't think I could ignore the "maintenance required" message for that long though and resetting it would throw off all my other maintenance intervals.

    Too many, but not enough....
You'd be better off running dollar store oil and changing every 5k miles or 6 month.

I would run it…but not 25K. Don’t drink the cool aid. Proving a oil damaged the engine to an oil manufacturer is nearly impossible.

Are people seriously that lazy? Is it really that hard to change your own oil?

    ^^Rhetorical questions...^^

The conclusions from my extensive research are 'probably' and 'no'.

Every time I have tried to change the oil on this damn truck the housing gets jacked. I just let someone else screw it up now. 2 leaky metal housings and 3 stock ones later I just say "it's your problem now" as I hand over the keys.

Mobil 1 and Amsoil have had 25k mile oils out for a long time now. I think these are intended for people who drive much more than average in a year.

Those were the days. I ran Amsoil and the dual cartridge bypass filter kit for the first 180k miles of my f150 in the 2000s. Only did 4 or 5 oil changes on it. Sent samples to blackstone every 15k from the small petcock on cartridge setup. Ran one oil change close to 50k. I took the kit off 10 years ago and still have truck with 250k miles and still runs great, original engine and transmission untouched (except timing chain guides, ford used plastic that disintegrates). I follow the 5k for tundra now since i have extended warranty.

For whatever it's worth - I have an 06 Tacoma with 260,000+ miles. I've owned it since new and have only ever used Amsoil's signature series (25k mile). I change oil and filter ever 10k miles though. Engine runs and sounds great and has never been opened.

A writer for Popular Mechanics did an article a while back where he talks about going 10 years without changing the oil in a lawnmower. He decided to send a sample to Blackstone and they came back and basically said it was still good to go.

I accidentally purchased a "no oil change" mower without realizing. It's a Briggs engine. The damned thing doesn't even have a drain plug so I have to flip it over and remove the oil fill spout. Based on the sheen of the oil, it very much needs to be changed.

Maybe I'll put this stuff in my lawn care equipment(?)

My first Toro lasted 4 years, admittingly I never changed the oil.
It just locked up one day.

My second Toro I changed the oil religiously, once a year.
I was a 2011 and one of the seals gave out this year, I got 13 years out it.
It was going to cost more to fix it than it was worth so I bought this new one.

All 3 I had to, or will have to, tip it over to drain the oil..
    Sorry for the thread drift..

I'm a firm believer in good maintenance. I take care of it all myself on everything I own. No vehicle ever goes past 5000 miles regardless of oil used. Dino oil, Synthetic oil, or snake oil. Every year or 5000 miles.

I got in with a local oil testing company and did frequent oil tests. I haven't done one now since I moved but I will be screening, at least, my oil at 10k after getting my first oil change at 5k. I did run a corolla 50k on an oil change, changed the filter at 25k. The oil was still good at 49k, but decided to change it anyway. That was Amsoil Sig. Not sure how the current Toyota oil compares with Amsoil now though.

Every mower I’ve bought in the last 25 years didn’t have a drain plug. Always had to take the fill hole thing out and turn mower on its side

Off topic again. Is it a push mower? My Briggs is a push mower that is a no oil change engine. Tilt it in its side. It takes a half a qrt.

Yeah it's an "even cut" brand (made in chy-nuh) belt-driven field push mower. Not self propelled. It's got the 6.5 Briggs, haha they don't even rate them in horsepower anymore, it's 6.5 something though

Sorry OP, I derailed your thread! But it looks like there's a special on Amazon. 5 qts of 25000 blend for $29.99. Even if you change it at 5,000 miles, you can break even $$. I'd be more concerned about the filter after 10,000 miles. Looks like they make long life filters though.

Yeah me too but to save money you can also take the old used oil from your truck and dump it in your mower

I've been using straight 30W, probably no distinguishable difference since we probably mow in the warmer months. The last time I drained it, the oil looked like silver paint, that was my break in oil though. Lots of particulate, granted there is no filter. I couldn't imagine running that dirty oil for very long. My last mower was a two stroke Lawn Boy from the early 1980's! Then it lost compression :( I still have it, I can't let it go  Wish I could find over sized rings, I'd rebuild it just for fun and nostalgia. The tires actually went bald from use. They had little diamond shapes, now they are slicks.

I bought a rebuilt 70’s lawn-boy. Loved that thing. After 15 years it shot the shit and died. I bought a new Lawn-boy and it was the biggest POS. Toro f’d up big time with LB. I put up with the POS for a few years because I paid a lot for it and didn’t want to throw it out. Finally had enough and bought a $1200 Honda push mower. OMG. That thing is a dream. I’d never pay that much for a push mower again but dam, I’m glad I did lol
