Adding. We are looking at it and a truck. Ford is offering 196 a month lease on an XLT lightning. It’s kinda tempting.

I can’t see that class action actually going anywhere. The 8-speed in the Tacoma (AL80) wasn’t around back in 2016. Toyota did start to roll out a different 8-speed (UA80) in 2017(?) I think, which did have a lot of complaints.

There's only 4 Non Tundra owners in the last page, on one of them is looking at replacing his F150 with a Tundra. Lots more Tundra owners in here than not. Besides, we are all just a bunch of folks interested in trucks. Natural for us to all gather round and shoot the shit about all of them. :)

damn zilla, got me on a technicality, which I should have expected. I should have said more "posts by" gm and ford owners., :angrygirl:

and ya, I don't mind the non owners here much anymore, mods did a great job nuking the real problem ones during that flood of bs. I cross shopped trucks last time too.

tundra is still the best half ton anyways, HEHE :burp:

It is not "in 3 years", they fail since 2018 when Toyota first put this engine into Lexus LS500. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-5th-gen-2018-present/960349-2018-ls500-on-2nd-blown-motor.html

This engine is junk and, no, Toyota is not able to fix it. 7 model years is more than enough time for any capable engineering team to fix a problem in their product. Or they are all walked out of office.

From what I see on all but the HC trims it’s the same. High country look different like the Denali ultimate seats so maybe there’s hope.

I just had a grand Cherokee L rental. Nice seats. Hard to judge quality on a 45k mile rental though.

volvo expert has spoken, thread closed and locked, and tundras closed down since all new one are crap and the old ones don't break, so there is no need for this anymore.

    This is the way

The way is to admit this particular engine model has lasting design problem that the vendor seems incapable to fix. Admit and let it go.

If Toyota could fix this issue by cleaning machining debris more effectively or updating parts, they would have done it already. IMO, with the first 2025 rumored to be down over on FB, Toyota can’t fix this problem because there’s no fix. Seems to me Toyota is playing the same game as Hyundai/Kia with their bad design, more recalls coming soon and hopefully lifetime motor warranty and replacements for 3rd gen owners. This theory would explain why Toyota wants all the old motors that haven’t eaten a bearing yet shipped back to them… because they’re going be reusing the parts going forward. Can’t see another reason to pay all that money for shipping back.

Well said. I’m still a Tundra fan and would likely buy another if the engine got figured out. But that isn’t looking promising.

Toyota needs to add an extended warranty with this engine replacement! It’s being done by technicians, who may or may not be at the same skill level/qualifications, as other technicians, throughout all their dealerships. They have to remove pretty much the whole front of the vehicle, including bumper, grill and louver, damper, hood, inter coolers and radiator, and front/side body panels. They are not factory workers and this is not being done in the factory! Plenty could go wrong, including but not limited to, poor reassembly, misplaced wiring, improper torque on the bolts during reassembly, etc. The fit and finish, even coming out of the factory during the first year to two, was poor in my opinion. I have plenty of creaks and less than optimal connections in several spots on the interior of the vehicle. Toyota, make it right, or you lose my business forever!

If not I will be moving on to another auto builder! Oh wait that might have already happened!

Damn dudes, of the thousands of Toyotas built EVERY day, you hear of a few issues & sell off?? Wow. One or two or 3 or 4 2025's could have had an issue out of the tens of thousands they've built? Those are damn good numbers if you ask me. Speculation is a bunch of B.S. & the grass isn't always greener on the other side. I came from that side, its way worse.

I was one of the early adopters to the Gen 3. I got mine in Sept of 22. Then once we got word of the safety recall, the truck sat. Our liability wasn't worth the risk even though that was low. The knowledge of the potential issue that would increase the chance of a crash put the truck on the back burner. The truck was owned by our safety consulting company. As we learned more about potential dates to get a recall engine it was looking more like Q3 of 2025 in this area. This would mean that we not have use of it for 11 more months. (Total of ~17 months parked)

We tried to get Toyota Canada to help us out but they wanted nothing to do with us! Our dealership didn't want our 22 back as a trade on a new one but told us that they would help us auction it off and we could see maybe 60% of the purchase price. This is a truck with 4,500 miles on it and not a scratch! What does that say when the guys who sell these don't want them on their lot! So we went to look for another make and there were 2 makes with tough engines, Cummins in the Ram and Duramax in the GM. We found a nice one at a large GM dealership and they gave us a good trade amount and have the Tundra on their lot now.

They have not had any interest in it other than tire kickers who want to talk about engine failures.

So our first Toyota turned out to be one of the worst experiences we have had and this was mainly because of the support they gave us. Then the resale value had also tanked so all the hype about the Tundra that lead us to Toyota was not there. We liked the truck and how it drove but the recall put us in a position where we were paying for something that we couldn't use. We tried to stick it out and we seemed to care more about Toyota than they cared about us.

This is our first Chevy but the HD version should be a beast especially for our needs.

You guys dealing with Toyota US are fortunate that consumer protection, lemon laws and buy backs are front and center so Toyota behaves better.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't mean to leave out the Powerstroke crowd, Ford just hasn't been on our list since my 2 Ford Pintos (my first 2 cars).

Which dealer is your truck at? Currently shopping used Tundra's and liking the $7,000 to $10,000 off on 22 and 23's. The recall doesn't particularly bother me and besides, yours could be one of the good ones and never have an issue.

I know someone needs to buy those trucks when they first come out (YouTubers, content creators, influencers, etc.) but for the rest of us, 'normal folks' - what happened to the conventional wisdom of NEVER EVER buying the first year gen of anything? Did we just conveniently forget about it because, you know, it was Toyota we were talking about? I absolutely do not mean any disrespect here (you have almost 2k messages on here ) but can you elaborate on your decision making process to actually buy the 3rd gen the moment it was released?

Thanks for the comments! No problem with anything you are saying here! My message count just demonstrates my desire to keep this truck and my investment in the Truck and the members of this forum. I really enjoy tinkering and saw the Tundra as a bit of a hobby.

We were looking for a 1/2 ton truck for our business that could handle towing a trailer and also handling materials to our work sites. We liked the looks of the Tundra and saw it as a good capacity upgrade from our Honda Ridgeline.

We had waited almost a year since the Gen 3 first came out. If that wasn’t enough wait, I guess we didn’t get the message about waiting even longer!

Toyota had a great reputation coming off the Gen 2.5 success so why would this be a red flag? A year into an updated model and a solid reputation seemed like a no brainer!

Not having a Toyota since our 73 Celica sort of left us out of the main stream Toyota machine so we didn’t see that Toyota would need 16 months to make this update functional and produce a reliable vehicle.

We still had hope that Toyota would figure it out and we would eventually we would have a truck that we could depend on to meet our needs. When we heard about the recall roll out, this was it. With the potential date of Q3 of 2025 to get this fixed, we decided that we had enough. Like I said before, we put more effort into keeping this than Toyota did in keeping us as a customer.

So my question to you 2024/25 buyers, why not wait till Toyota switches to another engine platform altogether? My guess is that we believe that Toyota will eventually get it right and they will look after us?

If you go back to the Lexus days, this V6 engine has been failing for several years before it wound up in the Tundra. Seems like we have all bought into the marketing “Toyota is the longest lasting brand!” That may be true of the Corolla?

We've all heard your story, many times, about how you parked your Tundra and didn't use it as soon as the recall came out. How Toyota Canada sucks, and how Canadian consumers have no rights. And how you finally moved on to a Chevy.

My question is, why do you think any of us care to hear your story again?
