This is just how to add the spare tpms with tech stream. I bought an oem sensor on eBay for $45. PN 42607-02050. There are plenty of how videos on how to break the bead of your tire and install the sensor. This is mainly instructions for tech stream. Open TS and connect then click the tire pressure monitor ecu. Click data list and take note of your current sensor IDs. You shouldn’t need them but do it just to be safe. First screenshot shows my sensor IDs. The 5th one shows all zero, that is the spare. Then just follow the rest of my screen shots and just enter your new sensor ID. Oh make sure you get the new ID before you install in the tire. lol
I’m still waiting for it to display the pressure on the MID screen, but it should be showing the pressure in data list on TS right after you add it. Also last photo is the tools I used. Nothing special just stuff I had laying around. You’ll need that core removal tool so you can use it to pull the stem through the rim.

Did you purchase TS or are you using one of the bootlegs with a Chinese cable?

I have a cracked key that I got from MMH auto forums. There are people on there that can get keys to activate TS. My cable is a tactrix open port 2.0. It works fine with TS. I’ve had this cable from way back when I activated the alarm in my 2011 tundra. I’ve used it on multiple Toyota and Lexus.

Finally it’s showing the pressures. I may have caused it to hang up when I took the spare for rebalancing. It was showing identifying tie positions while they had the spare out and when they got done it showed accepted, so I guess it was missing the spare. I did the set pressure this morning, something I missed before. I also went in TS this morning and forced it to the positions. Only spare I know for sure which ID it is. The rest I guessed at it. I’ll test them later by setting the pressure different from each other, or just run the change wheel set and let the truck ID them.

@Dpoll995 Do you have a how to or where to guide on getting the techstream app, keys, and correct cable?

I called my dealer about turning on the spare tpms but they charge 3 hrs labor at $150/hr just to program, not including adding the sensor to the spare. They also won't even mount my customer supplied wheel/tire package unless I buy from them.
..I mean I've only spent $70k with them on the truck. I would like to add this feature but will need to do it on my own.

Too bad Toyota was too cheap to do this at the factory. But then again I’ve always hated how Toyota does their TPMS. Other vehicles I’ve owned Always kept the psi shown on info screen no matter how low. My tires were 35 psi on my 24 Tundra Limited and the other night the temp dropped to in the 20’s and all I got was a big farking error on my screen that said pretty much nothing helpful to point out which tire. I couldnt really get anything on the MID screen for none of the info. I had to use my phone app to get the tire pressure which I’m sure once my subscriptions expire on my phone apps, I won’t have a reliable way to monitor.

Unfortunately I don’t have a how for tech stream. I got the “key” for tech stream at mmh auto forums. I downloaded TS straight from TS website and installed it, it generates a seed and I provided that seed to someone on the forum and they got me the key. I’m not sure if the older version of TS is available anymore though. I believe they recently changed it to a web only version. The OBD cable I have is tactrix openport. You can still buy this cable. I believe it’s about $170. If you can’t get an older version of TS you could buy the cable and then sub to the 2 day version of TS straight from TS site, which cost $70, for the professional level.

I had the tire pressure drop a few days ago when temps dropped also. Got the same generic, non-tire specific warning message on the MID. However, I was able to toggle the MID back to the TPMS monitoring page where all 4 show up. There it had the low tires with pressure displayed and highlighted. It would not stay in that readout position, and would almost immediately go back to the previous warning screen and stay there.
