I started to lift when I was a teen. I’m now 60 and been inflicted with Dunlaps disease. My belly Dunlap my belt. 5’10” and was close to 230. Currently down to 215 and trying to hit 200. Do a mix of workouts at the local gym. Elliptical, jogging, walking when the old man feeling hits,Les Mills body pump, HIIT and spin class. Tried to swim but I sink. I’ve always lifted when younger but as I get older I’m not pushing the high weight low reps. More like the opposite. Take care everyone and take a moment to listen to what your body is telling you. Right now mine is telling me to get out of bed and get a sticky bunn. It’s not always right.

I've been slowly working my way into triathlons and it's amazing how much a wet suit helps. Try one, or at least buoyancy shorts, before giving the idea up.

    this.

    fat floats, muscle don't.

I sink when I wait on the boat when I wakesurf...so, in addition to my life vest, I have to wear a floaty belt too.

I’ve been doing a 3-day split with compound lifts and some accessory exercises. I also do LISS cardio most days. Having a home gym is awesome, especially when you’re busy. No waiting for equipment, and you can work out whenever you want. If you’re looking for a boost in your fitness routine, you might want to buy steroids credit card. It’s an easy way to help reach your goals faster.

Hey gang, I'm looking for advice on finding a personal trainer.

A little back ground on my fitness journey:

I was an athlete a lifetime ago and got fat AF. When I got high blood pressure I didn't care, but when the doctor told me I was diabetic and had low testosterone (two August ago) and I was 418lbs, I woke TF up.
I've since lost about 130lbs (and am no longer diabetic and have normal testosterone levels) thru keto, walking, pool aerobics, and some weight lifting.
But I also managed to injure myself with poor form. I'm mostly recovered now and with my weight loss stagnating from 10lbs a month to 5, I'm ready to get serious about lifting again.

Last weigh in I was 284. I'd like to get down to 200 and toned. I've been going. To the gym once a week as guest with my buddy, but I plan to get my own membership soon. I walk 35-50 miles a week. I plan to start jogging some of that once I drop another 30.pounds.

    Thanks.

If you want an in person, personally I can give two shits about their personal retainer certs. Find one that isn’t jammed packed with clients, super fast response times, and walks the walk

They’ll try to use it as a selling point. I’m not saying if they have one, they’re garbage. It’s just very old school and most of those guys who brag about it use cookie cutter programs from my experience.

    <preface - I do a strength building/mobility preservation routine>

    my advice:

    get in the gym.

    do compound movements.
    squats
    bench
    pullups

do a lot of those, and build a nice base.
....then, add in all the foo-foo shit.

    and walk.
walk at least a mile a day.

    What are compound movements?
What is the foo foo shit?
I walk at least 2 miles a day, but average about 5. At work I walk anywhere from 5-10 miles four nights a week, for a total of usually 30-35 miles a week at work and 15-20 miles a week at home. Depending on the weather and whatever else I got going on time wise and stuff I'm usually walking 35-50 miles grand total per week for the last 8 or so months.

I wish I could do pullups. I couldn't do 1 as a kid and I can't do 1 now. The only time I could, was when I lost weight my senior year of HS and worked 30hrs/wk in a feed store. Back then I could do about 20 pullups in a row. Literally the only time in my life I could do any lol. Moving 50lbs bags of feed, 1 ton pallets, hay bails, salt licks, and 200lb tubs of molasses for a year got me there.

    Good to know.
My buddy was telling me while we were offroading last weekend that I should do deadlifts.
I'm hesitant to do clings, because I sprained my wrist doing those in the past and I'm already recovering my shoulder and elbow as is. That's why I want a trainer, to teach me good form so I don't keep injuring myself. I had to take like 4 months off my my elbow and lost so much of my gains.
I had been doing curls, military press, and skull crushers with my dumbbells, plus the forearm squeezer things, prior to getting the elbow injury.

Compound movements use lots of joints.
    Squats are the best example.
Deadlifts are OK, but you better have your lower back & abs sorted out.

Pullups and Dumbbell presses are best for upper body.

lat pull downs and such are a decent sub for pullups....get stronger.

If I were to teach a newby that was older...I would use box squats. <see Dave Tate's video library>

I only do box squats now. to Juuuust below parallel.

and do abs every workout. EVERY workout. best bang for buck & they will keep your lower back in order.

foo-foo = all that single joint crap.

about the only single joint exercise we do is JM presses (for triceps)....and they are kinda not a single joint

Farmer's walk are a very good prehab exercise. trains your grip very well & work your entire body in a non impactful way.

and at 57, I count changing the oil as an exercise...everytime I have to get up and get a tool I forgot is a rep.

    focus on mobility.

can you do a Grok Squat?
can you raise your arms above your head?
    can you touch your toes?

    if not, get after it.

    if so, good on you.

I could go on & on...and I will, if you ask questions.

I can touch toes and raise arms over head.
No clue what a grok squat is, or JM press, or farmers walk.

I see you are also south of Houston.

Ok I found those excercises you mentioned.
I'll definitely do the farmers walk.

I'm not sure if the grok squat is a repetition exercise or more of a holding excercise like planking though. Not much info

    I am not a trainer.
I am just an experienced lifter with strong opinions.

I have always used lifting as my escape from team oriented tasks.
my business life is full of team oriented crap.

I use lifting as a measure of ME.
How I grow and get stronger is easy to measure and good for my brain.

once I got my foundation, I moved over to conjugate periodization.
it's a more technical training method.
it allows me to strengthen my weaknesses & easily measure progress.
and it involves math. (I'm in Accounting/Finance)

I admire folks that train to get stronger.
it tells me they have an inner calling.

Grok squat...some call it an Asian squat.

Grok squat just tells you if you have the mobility of a human.

if you can get into that position, you are good.

    feet flat on floor.
