About to do a transmission drain and fill. A few questions.

    1. Can the fluid be warm before I drain it and add equivalent amount of new fluid?

    2. When checking level, assuming engine is running??? If it’s low (no fluid coming out of the level check drain), can I leave fill plug off and just add new fluid until it runs out of the level check plug?

thx. If any of this makes sense…..

For your 2006 this is the most straightforward video I have seen, and I think it answers both of those questions:

Thx Shifty. I’ll check it out….

Desert Dog, this year has a sealed transmission. No dip stick unfortunately….

Just completed this. Drained 2.5 qt Added 3. Got temp up to 98 and nothing came out. Added another 1/2 qt and got temp up to 119 and it dumped about 1/2 qt.
I think first attempt, 98 wasn’t hot enough. It wasn’t easy getting it up to 119 as it’s cold here in Georgia…..

Should I do another one in 5k miles…. 140k on truck and never been done….

    thanks for the help….

Ah - here it is. I was hunting out this thread. I dunno if this helps, but ... here's some up-to-temp info in the following quotes:
