    It's more than just a tune as it includes some equipment upgrades but the price seems about right. Seems like anything involving the latest generation of Toyota trucks is pricey compared to the competition.

    You're going to get scolded by the "tuning bros" crowd.

    But isn't it interesting that when a manufacturer uses the same engine from a 2500/3500 vehicle in a 4500/5500/6500 platform, it is de-tuned/de-rated. They might know something the "tuning bro" crowd doesn't.

    Also, I see way more catastrophic engine failures in tuned powertrains than stock powertrains. In this case, it's basically a FBO and tuned N55i versus a stock powertrain S55 M3. One blown non-domestic engine replacement out of warranty usually makes people reconsider some of their life choices.

    It does seem that the de-tuned/de-rated commercial medium duty engines tend to have a longer life compared to the up-tuned/up-rated consumer duty counterparts. I see this a lot in diesel municipal fleet vehicles.

    well, since he said he knew ford needed to top Toyota, I figured I would explain that the 3.5 Ecoboosts were already making more power than TRD tuned 3rd gen’s 6-7 years before the TRD tune even came out. An FP tune wasn’t even needed to top them.

    They don't need too. The Ford and Toyota have an oil dipstick that alone makes me buy the Toyota or the F150 over the Ram Hurricane.

    First I heard of this trend was a friend's Audi. When I change my oil, I'm obsessive about getting the level as close to perfect as I can. Not sure I could handle not being able to visibly check it.

    I still think it's better than what Ford put out for the Raptor, talk about a joke. Total money grab. Goosetuned for Ford is the only way.

    The Tundra will definitely hit peak power sooner, BUT both are gonna be close to the same 0-60 times IIRC. Still, for day to day use, peak power numbers and when they come in don't matter a ton, do they?

    100% peak power and when it comes in matters, (not sure if your joking here).

    drop a trailer on each, and time them again...., that's where it matters. and it matters with the ease of driving, don't have to rev like crazy to pull or accelerate.

    just my .02, I do get that

    Depends on how much you tow. Throw 7,000# behind a NA truck and a forced induction and you'll tell a huge difference.

    I don't try to tow fast or accelerate quickly when towing. After years of driving diesels and towing, gassers will never measure up, so I just enjoy the ride. If I towed 7K pounds with any regularity I wouldn't be buying a 1/2 ton or a gasser. Besides, I'll get better MPGs towing than the turbo truck with the same load. :p

    Not joking. Good enough is just that, and for me the latest V8s are plenty good enough for a gasser light duty truck. If I get to where I feel like I need more I can always throw the SC on it and it'll be pushing 700 HP and 650 lb-ft. Then, even with the worse power curve, it'll make more power sooner than the turbo 6. :burnrubber:

    You seem defensive so I'm not trying to start an argument at all. There's nothing wrong with the 5.0, but if you can't appreciate the confidence to pass or get up to highway speeds I question your "years of towing with diesels". And given your Wyoming elevation, a NA V8 wont even compare when unloaded.

    Not defensive at all. Just explaining my reasoning. However, I earned my pay with a CDL for several years and owned a Ram with a 5.9 cummins that I used to help haul hay and scrap cars for friends. Lots of experience. Enough to learn that when towing it's not about speed or passing. It's about making it as safe and enjoyable as possible.

    Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. I don't try to tow at the speed limit. Just about every manufacturer recommends not towing over 60-65 MPH. Who are you passing at those speeds? I wind up in the right lane and only overtake the poor semis that are governed super hard. It's calm and peaceful.

    low end torque and low peak torque is what made it slow, smooth, and peaceful, hehe :militarypress::boink:

    it wasn't higher rev HP for that.
