@SuskyRiverRat Welcome to the world of beta testers! The bearing is spinning out as we have all seen in some pics floating around. The issue seems to be hard to pin down. Is it the debris, the oiling system, the super thin oil, the bearing tolerance, the bearing material? If the debris issue has been solved as Toyota claims it has, then perhaps it is one or all of the above. Or something completely different like solar flares or planetary alignment ;)

Totally fair. Again I'm more so pointing out the lunacy of those that'll say "well GM has lifter problems, Ford can't build a transmission, Stellantis is junk, and Nissan is gross therefore Toyota get a total pass on the spun main bearing debacle".

As if spun main bearings is just a minor mechanical issue, and not catastrophic to a truck.

Yup. There's hyperbole on both sides. There's the dismissal of the issue and then there's the "they're garbage and you should feel bad for owning one" crowd. Neither are helpful or rational. The reasonable response is somewhere between those two.

for sure, Toyota does not get a pass , I also think they have sold what 400k tundra so far or something , I bet it’s still a pretty rare failure but only Toyota knows

    we’ll see what happens

The failure rate is debatable but probably 1% or less. That's not acceptable and early oil changes don't seem to improve your chances and it sucks if you drew a short straw and happen to get a bad engine.

But there are already numerous instances of 100k and your chances of getting a good one are pretty good.

If lottery is the new norm for Toyota trucks, yeah sure go for it. But people didn't buy lottery tickets honestly, and pretty expensive ones I must say. This puts them in the same categories with the other shitty trucks.

Though I don't agree with the "other shitty trucks" blanket statement, I do agree with the sentiment expressed. When it became apparent that I needed a full size again the Tundra didn't have a default reliability advantage like the previous gens, and I wound up in a V8 F150. Never thought I'd see the day where the F150 had the older, more established, and generally reliable engine option when compared to a Tundra. Bizarro world moment for me.

Don't know that it's actually a 99% chance. If they've made 100K per year for 22-24 model years (call it 400K total Tundras for ease) and they recalled 100K of those for expected failures, then I'd say a 25% chance to lose is more accurate. That's not accounting for the fact that lots of those made are hybrid and not actually eligible for the recall, but some have had failures.

damn I thought I was going to be rich

and it also doesn’t account for a bunch that are recalled but wouldn’t fail

again round and round and we cant get off , Toyota will not disclose the info so we can just either buy one or not , simple and I understand both thoughts

Exactly. Nothing is in easy proportions or numbers. Thus it's a very individual decision based on individual preferences and risk assessment.

@PBNB trust me I understand the beta tester comment. That seems the normal for all manufacturers not just automotive. solid works never seems to work in real life situations.

Finally! Everyone thinks I'm crazy when I tell them that GM trucks are so uncomfortable to me. My back hurts after 30 minutes, kills after an hour, and takes days to recover if I am in them for more than 2-3 hours. I don't even look at GM vehicles anymore.

it was bad, I was going to buy it too as I wanted to throw a borla on that 6.2, but it rode like shit and was just downright uncomfortable.

the ford and tundra rode better and were way more comfortable , AVS tundra rode the best hands down

@DrZoidberg is the gm trash seat spokesperson haha

    Lottery is your word.

The fact that what you drive isn't in your sig line speaks for itself.

I liked my Tundra seats and the ones in my Chevy are nice as well. I like them both. It might be the trim that we got on the Chev but no complaints on the seats from my wife either. She has some pretty fancy seats in her car so these have to live up to those!

I've been in base and top trim luxury GM trucks through the years for work. They have all killed my back. Trust me, I know that it's a me thing, but I can't drive them.

You know, I hope they don't follow the GM playbook on the C6 generation Z06 LS7 motor. Loosely quoting the head of the LS7 team; "Oh it was just an internet fueled issue, and there weren't any real issues. We scoured the warranty claims and couldn't substantiate any real issue." Except every LS7 is going to swallow it's valves, period.

it’s way past that already , they recalled a bunch and we’ll see what happens from here , that’s a long way from saying nothing is wrong

Yup. The only people saying there's nothing wrong are the hyperbole supporters in here. Toyota has already admitted there is an issue.

I’ve put 7,500 miles on my GMC now and would say that the seats are comfy and the ride is amazing. The ARC suspension is smooth. The Denali must have a different level of comfort. This trim level would compare to a Tundra with AVS right?

No idea. I've never been in the 3rd gen Tundra. I'm glad that the GM doesn't cause you the same issues they cause me.

There are more ford and gm owners in the last page than tundra owners lol.
I think your truck and my platinum tundra would be in the same trim range, so yes , close anyways
