Mine doesn’t, but that’s where I see the biggest benefit with OT.
I was salary once, as a service tech, worst decision I ever made. They had bonus incentives but they were unachievable.

Hory sheet, you guys are killing it on overtime!

I generally don't mind it, but I now have several hourly-staff in Commifornia that I've moved to exempt-salary, because of the state's overtime laws. Anything over 8 hours in a day qualifies as overtime at 1.5x their rate, and over 12 hours qualifies as 2x their rate! No thanks. It's too much of a variable for costing and is prone to abuse.

I've already had someone quit because she could earn more by "working" 3 long days, than working 5x 8-hour days. No big loss - I've already automated her workload, haha.

Not to derail, but quick shoutout to @JMB for setting me up with his buddy's Carolina sauce! I'm excited to bathe some freshly smoked pulled pork in it :D

I get bonuses every quarter; they just started it this summer, fortunately. I received a salary increase of 4.56%, I countered at 6.5%, and they didn’t bat an eye.

A guy over on TW is huffing paint or something. And I quote "The power out of this L4 turbo engine is amazing, almost like a diesel type torque." I get it. The new powertrain is way better than the outgoing 3rd gen Taco, but it's not even in the realm of diesel torque.

My raises are all dictated by my union contract. Usually there’s a minimum (like 2%) and another % for “performance”. Typically 1%. But managers are too incompetent and scared to tell the window-lickers they suck so everyone gets 3%.

One year I took on a new role that had a huge learning curve and I crushed it. I got that basic 3%. Talked to my manager and got :notsure:. Complained to my union and got :notsure:.

Yup. Unions stifle any desire to excel because rewards are capped by the lowest common denominator. Even the "good" unions have this flaw.

I don't want to sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. I don't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed. Other than that I'm open to business opportunities as long as I don't have to employ anyone or report to anyone.

Spent the day in the garage. New brakes and tire rotation. While I was at it, I figured that the original brake fluid was about done but surprisingly it looked brand new still, even after 11 years. In the pursuit of laziness, I got 25 of these syringes on Amazon for $7.50. Sucked out all fluid (TWSS) from the reservoir and again after pressing the caliper pistons back in. So let's call it a 65% fluid exchange. I'll repeat the process in a couple months.
Much heavy metal was played and many Miller Lites were sacrificed in the process.

First off I really appreciate you guys.

I've got people I can work with on investment deals, and that comes up occasionally. Rather than getting approached by investments that don't make sense, I'd need to work on my own presentation of what makes sense, put that together and reach out to folks. At some point, it may make sense to do that. I have accomplished all of my work goals for now, and I simply don't know what Utah 4.0 looks like. The question that I ask myself is -- what's the point? I haven't yet found an answer to that question. Management of business deals with other partners is where I'd be, if I was interested.

One side of me says, honestly maybe someday, but I still have a lot of puzzle pieces to put together. The other side of me says that not enough people would vote for me. Both sides of me say that there's no worthwhile work for me to do in that area.

The funny thing is, I really don’t know what brake job means. I kind of know, but I don’t. Every time I see someone doing a brake job, I’m like damn, that’s badass. I mean I know there’s shit you do with calipers and bleeding to get out air bubbles but I’m just amazed every time I see this shit. God help me.

second thing is I’m intrigued by the construction methods in your area, the thermal mass and the apparent lack of wood studs.

The house is constructed completely of block on a slab with a flat roof. The exterior block walls are furred out with 2 x 2 and drywall, the rooms inside by standard 2 x 4s. This house was built in 1978, new ones are usually made with the cheaper wood/styrofoam/chicken wire/stucco that most newer homes are made with.

That’s really cool. Housing construction systems are something that really interest me. CEB systems in particular — Compressed Earth Block.
