Hi. I just brought home a new 2018 Tundra TRD OR today.

They're offering me some VSA Platinum extended warranty for $2000 to cover bumper to bumper 7 years or 100k miles. Gave me a few days to think about it at that price.

Is it worth it? What do you guys think? I mean, I know they're sharks but one thing they said did make me think about is that fact that cars nowadays are more complex with electronics and sensors..which the VSA covers.

Love to hear your opinion. Thanks

I dropped it to 5 years and negotiated the price down. Felt pretty decent when all was done.

If your gonna drop $$$$$ for a new truck that price is worth the peace of mind, when I bought my 2017 Platinum 4x4, I took the protection plan

Ok will do, I will try to negotiate it down a bit.

But bad news, drove car home..decided to climb on the bed and found two big dents on the top of the car with some scratches. Looks like this happened while unloading it from the big rig..sigh, I dunno..will go back tomorrow and hope they wont shaft me saying I did it. Real bummer, that new car excitement goes from 100 to 0.

Dealer should have caught that. I learned to look them over pretty good before taking delivery. I had a cut in a sidewall on a tire on a Tacoma. Probably cosmetic but did not want to chance it. Unfortunately I caught it after I took delivery.

Well, they did me good and allowed me to choose another Truck, same everything. Was able to knock down the Platinum VSA to $1800 for 7/100 miles. I have the option to cancel as well.

Is that a good price? Wondering how much others pay for 7/100.

I think that's fair. I'd run with it especially since they didn't hassle you on the new, new truck.

A little of this and a little of that.
I’ve got one that covers the same thing and I like having the peace of mind knowing I won’t be stuck paying for some electric part that costs thousands of $’s. That’s money for mods instead of repairs.

On the flip side these darn trucks last forever so you may never need it.

Food for Thought.....I financed my Truck through my Credit Union and they offered a 10 year plan for almost 1/3 the price the dealer wanted. Check into it. I paid $800 for the 10/120,000, bumper to bumper, with a $250 deductible.

yeah sensors are pricey. Not so much the part price but the labor to access the part and change it.

Welcome. I think you can get an extended warranty closer to when the factory one expires. No need to get one now. You'll start getting notices to buy an extended warranty as yours comes close to expiration.

If you plan on doing ANY mods ( lift/ leveling kit, bigger rims and tires , suspension,etc... ) I would inquire if they will still honor the extended coverage. As i found out yesterday from one of my local dealers. " Toyota will not touch a vehicle that has been modified".... REALLY? Now i have to find a "mod friendly" dealership in my area, if there is such a thing. What a bunch of crap!

I've got a 125k or 7 year warranty currently at 106k with only one minor radiator hole not from equipment issues but a physical hole was puctured in some how. Would if cost me 607. They covered it.
My argument with the guy when I bought my warranty was, "why am I buying a toyota if I have to worry about things breaking on it within 125k?" Don't think the guy had heard that one before.
Over all I'll never get an extended warranty again. This was my first extended warranty I've ever bought and kinda bought it just to try it out. Unless in the next 20k I blow a tranny the warranty was over all worthless to me. But shit happens sometimes you need the warranty. I might have just been lucky knock on wood.

i always seem to resist extended warranty so when the day came for me to pick up my truck i was ready to snap off a "NO THANK YOU GOOD SIR!" as soon as they uttered anything about it. when the time came i was super excited to get into the truck and the financial guy mentions, "hey would you be interested in buying a one-year extended warranty plan for $800? oh by the way, this plan includes 10 synthetic oil changes." i didn't know what to say... the deal actually made sense for the customer! needless to say i bought it lol.

You can shop around for the warranty. You also have up to the 3yr or 36k to purchase. I have bought one for two of my vehicles through Jerry at Midwest Toyota in KS, and referred others to him that have been happy. I have heard Troy is also good to work with at Greenfield. When I asked my dealer to beat it, he showed me the cost on the warranty and Jerry had offered it for like 25 bucks over my dealers cost. Nice thing is, buying out of state there is no tax on it either....

    Greenfield Toyota, ask for Troy
    413 772-0989

    Mid-West Toyota, ask for Jerry

I paid a little over $800 for the 100k platinum warranty that was negotiated at the time of purchase. My truck is modded at the suspension, tires, electrical, exhaust, cut the body and Toyota still honors the warranty under Magnuson Act. As long as the aftermarket parts/work isn't the cause of the problem, Toyota has to honor the warranty.
