I’m in a search for a decent 1st gen tundra, and I found one that’d require shipping so I’m not able to see in person. Does this frame look coated? Opinions on condition? I’m in Texas and not use to judging frame condition.

I'll let the 1st gen guys give advice/opinions

But let's see if I'm right
That looks like a new frame if not it is definitely coated/painted

Hard to tell, but it looks like there’s paint runs in the last picture above the tire.

Definitely coated in something. Hard to tell on my cellphone. From what I can see, the frame doesn’t look bad and it’s not the type of undercoating that you need to worry about fostering rust underneath.

If I had to guess, it’s a paint type coating meant to hide surface rust which you can see on the transmission pan underneath.

Looks like someone hit it with some paint. From the pics it does not look like some type of undercoat....looks thinner like paint.

Id ask for a lot more pictures if you are thinking about buying it sight unseen

They’re saying former owner used some rust prevention spray. Agree it looks thin though and may not have been sprayed into the frame. Given it has history in the Northeast I’ll probably pass since I have to do this sight unseen. Appreciate the insight

    lots of dents
the swaybar looks rusty, the exhaust looks rusty, the companion flange on the front of the transfer case looks rusty, the front driveline looks rusty. I'm betting the frame is no different.

Yeah you don’t want to do it sight unseen from here. Plenty of other things besides the frame that can rust and cause you problems when replacing wear and tear parts. Must be a good price if you were considering it when you’ve got a better selection in your area.

I wouldn't even think about buying one with a painted frame sight unseen. Unfortunately, there are just too many shady people in this world.

Looks almost like the frame was replaced and it’s now coated in Fluid Film.

The frame may have been replaced but everything else looks rusty AF.

Hard to tell, but it looks like pinch welds on the rockers are all crusty.

If you're in Texas, I wouldn't be looking anywhere outside of Texas, NM, AZ, LA, or AR. I see nice rust free Tundras for sale around here all of the time.
