The only time I seem able to enable (I sound like a poet, ) it is when I have cruise control active. Is this actually the only time it works?

Thanks in advance for any insight,
    Mike

lane assist (giving you a little nudge back when you drift towards the line) works at any time as long as road conditions warrant (strips, etc), turn on and off on the steering wheel.

lane center (truck tires to keep you in the middle of the lane) works only while cruise control is active. turn on and off in the dash controls

This is not designed to drive for you, its only supposed to help center you when road conditions warrant, it won't take turns that are sudden etc.

good for interstate and windy conditions, etc so it helps you fight drifting over.

it works ok I would say, not great.

toyota put the 2.5 gen system in our trucks when they have the 3.0 in other vehicles, It would be nice if they bumped us up starting in 26 with the mid cycle refresh

    boost on

Agree with Mr. Borla. Definitely needs cruise on and conditions have to be right. I've had it not work in bright sunlight, at night with oncoming headlights, rain and more. It's nice on long trips when it's working since you can relax a bit. Also, if you connect a trailer, Lane Centering will be disabled and will NOT re-enable when trailer is disconnected, you have to manually turn it back on in the MID menu.

Definitely doesn't work as nice as Ford Blue Cruise of GM Super Cruise but you have to pay for those where Toyota's is not part of any subscription.

I think those Ford and GM system are supposed to actually drive for you though, right?

the thing we have is not supposed to be anywhere near that, just kinda keep you in the lane type deal.

I wouldn't pay for those other systems anyways, I prefer to drive myself.

    Thanks all

I thought I was missing something. The system definitely lacks compared to the system in my Accord. I know it’s not a Honda, lol.
I don’t look for it to drive for me, just to aid if I look another direction while driving. I watch all around when I’m driving. I see way more than the average person does. I also watch my mirrors. My childhood friends stepfather gave me advice I practice still today. Watch 3-5 cars in front of you and 2-3 behind you. I know when someone is approaching me dangerously from behind me.

I like to use the lane keep assist to just help while I am looking all around.

Correct. They use navigation databases and gps along with the on board cameras/sensors. Toyota just uses the camera and sensors. And don't forget the camera they point at your face to make sure you are still paying attention. Every time you pick your nose it will be recorded for posterity.

As a side note, Ford charges $495/year or $49/month once the complimentary period ends. GM is $15/month but might be less if you do a bundlerooskie with On-Star.

I'm not anti-self driving cars but I think I'll wait until they don’t come with steering wheels or pedals. And then I'll probably wear a blindfold. And I'll probably be dead before any of that happens:thumbsup:

A good friend of mine recently got a Tesla Cyber Truck (not totally sure why). I got an opportunity to drive it and use the self driving feature. It was like something out of a sci-fi movie. The technology was so next level, and was a bit unnerving to be honest. I still can't get over the look of it, but the horsepower and the self driving are pretty impressive.

Wait until you experience phantom braking and your opinion will absolutely change. Autopilot is absolute trash on some roads...the cars will slam on the brakes and will scare the living crap out of you. My glass guy has a CT and it does haul, but the tech is still glitchy. We cant use AP on some roads because we know it freaks out in certain spots

I turn that crap off. My Mustang has it and that is the first thing that gets turned off in town. Thankfully it stays off most of the time.

Wow.. I guess we're all different.... One of the reasons I chose Tundra (over other trucks in this class) was because of those features came in as 'standard equipment.'

Not a fan of any of these features. Not allowing a computer to out smart the driver. Got in a panic situation in a Honda that tried to center us back in the lane…almost got hit. I shouldn’t have to tap the break to over ride it.

No idea how it works with Hondas but line centering feature in my Tundra never prevents me to 'take over' the steering with just my hands.. No need to tap the bake pedal to override that specific feature.

The first time I used Lane Centering was on long roadtrip with my wife. It pin-balled left and right so abruptly, it caused my wife to wake up from a nap and ask me "why are you swerving so much?"

Not only is it a poorly implemented feature, there's really no point to it. You still have to keep a hand on the wheel, so why not just steer yourself?

The time I notice it most helpful is in heavy crosswinds on the interstate, it helps fight back and forth

but the system does need refinement, I think thats part of the safety sense 3.0, we get got the 2.5

That sounds like you had lane tracing on but the lane centering was off. If you've ever towed a trailer you have to go back into the mid menu and turn lane centering back on in the lane tracing sub-menu. In the right conditions I've been able to go many miles right in the center of the lane. I do agree though that it isn't a very good feature and I wouldn't pay extra for it if I had a choice. And I don't use either of the two except on long trips, definitely off a majority of the time.

You didn't hear this from me, but a spring loaded clamp strategically placed on the steering wheel will make the system think your hand is still there.

No, I had both on. And I tried all the different sensitivity settings. It's like a drunk is behind the wheel. And it's not just my truck. I tried it on a loaner when mine was getting serviced, and it was the same.

It's really a useless feature to me.

Our Subaru and Mustang have all this stuff. It works great, I just don't like it. Personal preference.
Now my wife uses it religiously.

They don’t actually run together at the same time as 2 functions. My understanding at least.

The button toggles between the two algorithms basically. The lane centering is much more aggressive to stay in the middle instead of between the lines overall.

My Honda will work this at 45 MPH and above whether ACC is on or not. Toyota requires the ACC (adaptive cruise control) to be on to keep you centered. I never rely on it to “drive” the truck. Only to assist my oversights while observing other surroundings around me while traveling. I really don’t see any tracing occurring while not in ACC. It seems pretty useless to me.

Weird how these trucks seem to have such big differences. Mine centers just fine when conditions are right and yours won't. Some have a beep when the rear windows rolls up and some don't. Some have throttle lag and some don't. I really like my truck but sometimes wish I had the 1949 Chevy 3/4 ton I drove in high school (in the late '70s, not the late '40s:))

3.0 is a world of difference. Much better. I had 2.5 on my RAV4 and now have 3.0 on my Lexus 350H. The difference is amazing.

After 3 months with the Tundra, I finally turned mine off today after getting tired of the steering wheel randomly buzzing all the time when I wasn't anywhere close to the line, going through intersections, etc. One of the few things I was disappointed with in the Tundra. The system in my GMC worked much better.
