People have unintentional discharges with 1911s. Revolvers don't have safeties. It comes down to one of two things. Unsafe handling or a defective firearm.

This is why I quit carrying a 1911. Seemed every damn time I checked my weapon the safety was off. No bueno.

Bummer. I thought the P320 was rock solid.

I know it's armchair quarterback stuff, but I wouldn't think stashing a pistol in your sweat pants pocket while climbing a ladder - in a holster or not - is a good idea to begin with. I'm no pro, but I don't know if that qualifies as "holstered" - kinda like sliding the pistol in to the holster then tossing the whole thing down a mountainside hoping it doesn't unholster itself and go bang...?

Thanks for the info. I'll pass it along to a guy I know... :anonymous:

Honestly I keep mine chambered. Reason being, you never know what situation you'll be in. I only keep rounds chambered in firearms that are generally good quality that I trust, and that I ALSO have plenty of experience shooting. Meaning only guns that I trust that I also own and shoot often.

The question being, how long does it take to chamber the round, not to long assuming you have your mag loaded. However, assuming you have an attacker coming towards you, you need to assume their gun is chambered already. A lot can happen in that 1-2 seconds to chamber your round and then assume safe shooting firing position with accuracy. Your attacker who may kicked your door in at 2:27am while your sound asleep, is prepared.

    You're not.

Sure these are "if" situations, but I'd rather be prepared than dead. Or worse case, my kids dead.

No offense but your name, and location, shows the level of ignorance your state is teaching people. Yes, people openly carry (with chambered rounds) in other states outside of CA.

I would NOT say it's "dangerous". Does it open another avenue for being mindful? Yes, but that comes with simply opening a firearm.

I'm not knocking you by no means, just saying that people need to research and practice/learn with guns.

If you are openly available for questions you'd like answered, I imagine plenty of folks here, and other places even in CA, would be willing to offer advice on.

To be fair, I think having a button in your pocket that you can press and it can kill someone would meet the definition of dangerous. The invention of the ship was the invention of the shipwreck. Same is true with guns, but we can't put that genie back in the bottle. I'm a firm 2nd amendment rights guy, one should be legally allowed to match a threat one could reasonably expect, even if the original intent was for the people to be able to defend themselves against tyrannical governments. But there's plenty of chuckle heads out there that don't have the capacity to safely handle that responsibility, but they get to anyway. This guy that shot himself could have been one of those, or a responsible gun owner with a defective firearm. Court says it was option B x 11 million bucks. Be safe out there people.

I left CA after my last duty station time was up in 1997. I was shocked at how many people in CA are gun enthusiasts. I was even more shocked at how many people had sporting rifles.

You know, I can respect your response even though it wasn't geared towards you. My quote was towards someone else, however, you did just like I mentioned.

"I imagine plenty of folks here, and other places even in CA, would be wiling to offer advice on."

Yes the button goes bang. Same thing with electric vehicles at this point if we're playing this game. It comes down to a small handful of points:

    - knowledge of said item
    - what people are told
    - company owning up to defective items

Yes, Sig should repair them as Toyota should repair the cam tower seals, however, owners should be responsible as much as they can. Things still happen. Ships sailing through seas know the risks of the facts that there are rocks they can't see due to high points or tides. So with comparing with what you said, I should not sail a boat in the seas because it's dangerous having possible rocks or whales who may be willing to flip my boat over because their angry?

Either way, it boils down to the operator. Learn, respect, care for said firearm (or boat) and continue learning about it. Just because you purchased the latest and fanciest setup (in regards to literally anything) at that particular point in time, doesn't mean you shouldn't stay on top of learning about it. We learn that things do have flaws and may need a little more special care throughout the ownership cycle.

Either way, I'm out and going to go lay in bed and have a good night either way.

I'm glad you got out while you could. My point still stands. For a good portion, we can agree that they are heavily against guns.

The phrase simply means, no one was drowning from boat accidents before the boat was invented. Each new marvel of technology comes with new, unintended consequences.

I too lived in California for many years. The large coastal cities ( and much of Sacramento) are very anti-gun and things of that nature, while the rest of the state is very much not. They have rodeos, they have duck clubs and gun ranges and drive F350s and all of that around various parts of the not large coastal cities parts of the state.

Well, I'll end and leave this as is.

Which one came first, the chicken or the egg?

Just because a new technology arrives, doesn't mean we have to play ignorant. If someone is willing to adapt into a new technology, then they need to be prepared to learn about said technology and be willing to continue to learn and adapt about the technology that they decided to include in their life.

A firearm going off by itself is for certain not something you want. However, you knew the risks involved with owning it and I do agree something needed to be handled regarding it, but that's not my call or judgement.

I forgot about the date on this one. You left in 1997. It's now at the end of 2024. You're talking about leaving a state and making highlight points from almost 30 years ago. Quite some bit has changed within all states in the last 30 years.

I'll be switching back to the SD.40 as my edc. Although I can say for sure that none of my pistols will ever go in the pocket of sweatpants or gym shorts.

I carry with a round in the chamber. Yes, I do think it could fail at anytime because it’s mechanical. When I raced motocross I knew my motor could let go at anytime regardless of how well it was taken care of. I will take that risk god forbid to protect myself. Boat ramps attract a rather interesting crowd at certain hours.

If this truly was a mechanical failure with the fire arm that is very unfortunate and by all means he should Sue. If it was complete negligence by the owner than he made a mistake and is getting paid for it. Either way someone was injured and I don’t ever want to see that.

A guy I work with used to be a police officer in the Carolina’s. They were issued 320’s, then the Sig 320 failed the drop test in military trials….. Switched to a Glock model after that.

My HD pistol stays in it's safe which is bolted to the night stand 'ONLY' during the day. At night, it's on the night stand with action locked open and mag loaded. A thumb press on the slide release closes the action, instantly loading the weapon. The Tritium Night Sights show me exactly where it is, even in total darkness. For me, having my pistol readily available is nothing more than common sense.

So, if I'm understanding this thread correctly the 3rd gen tundra is the P320 of the half ton truck market?
