Help - Alpine ILX207/Maestro RR/Backup Camera

I recently installed an Alpine ILX-207 along with a Maestro RR into my 2013. According to all the instructions I was to simply plug the camera rca from the hu into the Maestro one, but I have no image. Is this setup supposed to be plug and play with our factory back up cameras or did I miss something? Note: Reverse camera is in the mirror, not a factory hu

 

Black screen when you put it in reverse? It sounds like the RCA is plugged into the wrong one. I can't remember what colors they were.

 

Yes, black screen. I only have one for video (yellow) on the Maestro and I'm using the camera input one on the hu

 

I'd be willing echo what @Tundra234 said in that somethings plugged into the wrong spot. Other possibility is that the Maestro needs to be re-flashed and make sure the backup cam option is clicked on.

 

Not sure where else anything would plug in, the Maestro is fairly dummy proof as far as connectors go. The only other option on the hu is additional video inputs. The camera input on the hu only attaches to the
Speed Sensor/Camera/iDatalink/Aux harness
I flashed it last week but don't recall an option for backup cam, but I'll double check that first thing.

 

Does that Alpine have multiple camera inputs? I know my Kenwood has 4.

I'd assume #1 would be for BU Cam, but ya' never know.

Yeah my bad I should have been more clear, by "something" I meant to say my first guess would be an RCA plugged into the wrong connector. On a similar note, I had issues installing my head unit and Maestro but realized that there were two male connectors behind the head unit that both fit into the same female connector on the new head unit/maestro harnesses.

That said, if you've got the RCA plugged in the camera should come on if you switch to one of the other input sources but if all are showing black screen, my next guess would again either be a setting in the Maestro or possible a wire needs to be jumped/moved in the harness.

From the iLX-207 manual, it looks like the cam should be #4 and the the reverse trigger wire is the orange/white:

On the very far right of your diagram (2013 with separate amplifier I'm guessing) it looks like the backup lamp wire is green:


Could try and locate that wire and test with a multi-meter when you switch into reverse, and then make sure that wires connected to the orange/white on your iLX-207 harness.

 

No luck. I pulled the maestro and reflashed it, made sure OEM Camera option was switched on, didn't see any other camera options to fiddle with. Double checked everything in the dash and it's all in the right places, but still a black screen. The maestro and hu both detect that its being put into reverse fine, and camera still displays on rearview mirror. Might have to check the rca connector itself on the hu. It's a separate pigtail on the harness it connects to, maybe a dud. Other than that I have no ideas.

 

Ahhhhhh I didn't realize your factory camera was in the mirror, I was thinking it was displaying on the factory head unit. In that case, check out this video from Dean/Fernando at Five Star Car Stereo. Dean is a car audio guru and while this video is for a Tacoma, the process is the same. I'm guessing if you follow this video and do some rewiring you'll be able to get the signal down to the head unit:

Hm, I was thinking the maestro was the solution to this problem since it all runs through the canbus anyway.

 

It very well could but I'm not sure. iDatalink has good customer support over the phone, I called and chatted with a guy during my install, might be worth a shot before digging into things too far. Could also get a replacement cam and run it directly to the new head unit but that's just more $$$ although you'd probably end up with a better cam/picture than factory.

Yes, iDatalink guys are SUPER helpful, they went above and beyond when I was having problems getting the gauge pack to display trans temp on my Kenwood.

And if you do run another cam to the HU, you might as well take the opportunity to add a front cam too... love mine.

With front & rear cams makes it pretty easy to fit this pig into spots that astonish my wife.

Did you ever solve this issue? I have the same thing going on in my tundra with a Pioneer 3800NEX- triggers into black cam in reverse. Spent 2 hours with tech support. All the wiring is correct, signals meter out fine, head unit was proven to work in all RCA jacks with another cam, Spliced past all the harness, check for continuity and everything checks. I have a new RR coming in to test maybe its just a dud.

 

Check out the video I linked from 5 Star Car Stereo in post #10, regardless of Maestro/head unit brand etc. I think the only way to reroute signal from mirror to new head unit is the method Dean shows in the video, which should work for any head unit.

 

Mine ended up needing another ground from the shield of the RCA back into the harness, I bypassed the 24 pin straight to the OEM wiring.
