    Hello to all

Tundra has 1100 miles. I park my truck in our closed garage every night. For the first 8-10 times i apply my brakes backing out, the brakes squeal very, very loudly. The more i drive, all noise ceases.

I'm aware that morning moisture on the rotors causes slight rust. And the noise is the pads removing the rust. Does this cause any permanent damage? Never had an auto that did this so often & so profoundly.

    thanks for your feedback

Even first gens and 4Runners do it. I’ve tried pumping the brakes while in park, engaging the ebrake slowly, pumping brakes wile in reverse; and nothing seemed to work 100% every time

Thank you very much sudobash. have you had yours changed yet?

One last question. Does Toyota wholeheartedly take care of this fix or do they make it difficult?

    Thanks again.

Im scheduled for an 11/26 820am appointment next tuesday. They stated:
    -we do an inspection
-submit the claim to toyota if warranted
-if approved, they order the parts and sch brake job apptment - stated it takes about 2 hrs

Is there any reason they would not approve it? The noise will not happen when I bring it, so I guess they are looking for wear on the rotors or damaged pads?

    Thanks

I just emailed my service manager on this same thing. I'll report back with what level of difficulty they make things.

it's a dealer thing at first, they will try and duplicate, some dealers if they can't replicate will throw the "can't duplicate, operating as normal" at you. Others will just do it.

If you know how to make it do it or when, you can ask for a tech to ride along if they are giving you a hard time.

Toyota corporate will not push back at all if the dealer proceeds with the TSB

I told my dealer about it when I went in for the fuel line recall. I had the TSB printed out and on the passenger seat.
They said they would confirm the squealing.
When fuel line was done they had ordered the parts kit for the brakes and they would call when parts were in.
Took 2 weeks or so to arrive and then schedule the repair.

    Re:fuel line recall.
Not on the 24’s just 22/23 depending on build date.
Check your app for any recalls.
TSB’s and any recalls are all listed at nhtsa if you search. Sudobash posted a link to the brake one a few posts ago.

There's another recall about the tranny with an ECU software update required...you would think they would know these things before selling a new car w defective brakes, tranny issues, etc.

Dealers only fix them if you have the issue.
They only get paid to do it when submitted to Toyota on a complaint.
They don’t make $$ at the same rate for warranty work as from customers.
    No incentive to be proactive.

This sounds like a misalignment btw the customer and Toyota Corp if they handicap the dealer tonthe ultimate detriment of the final customer. My philosophy is: If they are willing to take the payments for buying the car, they need to be just as willing to fix the car when it's their fault.

This is absolutely correct. Took me a bit to figure out why my lousy local dealer would deny every obvious warranty claim, including this brake issue, at least 2-3 times.

I finally got someone honest who told me they get paid 60% less on warranty claims than they do service work, so their policy is to deny warranty work until the person goes away. Well, that stuff don’t fly with me so I simply came armed with the TSB notice (which they claimed didn’t exist) and multiple videos of the squeal in the morning. I spoke to the service manager and made it clear I was not leaving the premises until they fixed the truck. Finally got it done and no brake issues since.

Like I stated the above, Toyota needs to rectify the issues btw Totoya Corp and the dealers so the customer is not caught in btw...T Corp needs to normalize the reimbursement structure so warranty wk is paid appropriately, period !

Will never happen. Dealerships are independently owned. At least will never happen unless they are forced to change due to state Consumer Resource boards forcing the change legally.

Service associate told me to send him a video of it and he’ll order what’s needed to change it out. This was 3 months ago. It’s on back order apparently

I'm going to start recording each morning until i go. Will also print out TSB on the issue and leave taped to drivers side dashboard.

Some areas of the country are experiencing longer wait times than others for these parts. Some have waited since May. Do not know why.

Maybe it is due to volume. My local dealer is very busy.

That would be my assumption as well. They are having to fill inventory for new builds as well. And now the GX and LX have a TSB for squealing brakes.

I would definitely agree that dealers w a much larger vol of moving cars & parts will get the cars & parts much quicker too. However, parts availability could be tied to post Covid delays & interruptions.

    ***UPDATE***

Took in the 2024 tundra this am & they agreed to do the front brake fix. Stated it would take 2-3 mo's to receive all the parts.

I'll post back when all is completed
