    Hello all

    I have a 2017 Tundra SR5
    I recently installed Cali raised LED step sliders and I am looking to get some skids that have catalytic converter theft protection

    1Talons garage
    2 Vallaha
    3 CBI
    4 RCI

    Are all options but in not a huge fan of RCI's adda cat cover.

    The concern I have is if the Talons garage rearmost plate that has the bracket that bolts to the frame rail will fit over/with the slider mounting brackets

    If anyone has any experience please chime in.

    @Squatting Pigeon has posted about Cali raised and Valhalla compatability but it sounds like they may have lost favor around here if some one can enlighten me on potential issues.

    The search bar and Google didn't yeild the results I was looking for and Talons garage CS was unable to provide any certainty on fitment

    Thanks

    Shaw

    You will just need to drill a hole in the Talon bracket for your bolt for the slider to go thru. Definitely go with @Talon2006 and if you have questions or concerns, he is really easy to talk with and at this point I'm sure he has helped answer this exact question a few times.

    I see you reached out and they didn't have advice.

    I honestly have done a very bad job at tracking compatibility. I do have a design for an alternate bracket that goes to the inside of the frame. I did have some issues with it early on fitting that I got scared and pulled it.

    Let me look around and see what I can find. The main hole we use is about 18” behind the transfer case crossmember. If you can get me a photo of this area I can tell you more.

    That would be awesome. I have some CaliRaised sliders I need to refinish and get on my truck, but life has been life and they have just been in the garage. But, I'd definitely be interested in the new bracket once its live.

    Not with my truck currently, but I can get a pic in a day or 2 with where my cat shields connect. I just won't have the slider bracket in the pic. If that works let me know and I'll PM you the images so we aren't cluttering up this thread.

    I'll get under it tonight and snap some photos.

    I really want the Talon skids and if it's just a hole to drill I'll pull the trigger

    I was concerned that the mounting bracket wouldnt be large enough to wrap around the slider bracket as they seem to both want to occupy the same space

    I did speak to a nice younger gentleman (don't remember his name) yesterday, about compatability. He was professional on the phone, he just didn't have the information I needed.

    @RobertD I say post it here as I'd be interested as well and it would be searchable after having this post. Caliraised slider and Talons garage skids compatability was the primary concern for me posting the question. And thanks for the input.

    After a few PM’s it sounds like they will fit with a spacer and drilling one hole in the bracket.

    The real question now… Tyson or Paul?

    @Talon2006

    All installed

    Pretty straight forward once I got under the truck and started taking stuff apart.

    some bolts have nylock nuts some don't, looking at picking up lock washers for the bolts that don't have ny locks. What have you used to prevent bolts from backing out ?

    It's not a problem but just thinking ahead.

    Also I've got some "clicking" whenever I turn the steering wheel to full lock that wasn't there before ?

    Have you noticed the skid plates shifting during the steering cycle?

    Thanks

    Some people have had an issue with this. Might not hurt to check the tightness on the transmission to engine plate bolts. Few people have installed nylon washers and/or foam tape to eliminate the sound.

    I have not seen any bolts loosen on me, are you referring to the bolts going into the riv nuts? I do recommend after a few miles checking everything for tightness. I had a Toyota engineer tell me that the paint on the frame will actually compress, which will then let the bolts loosen and that is why it is so important to double check the bolts after initial install.

    @Talon2006

    Yes the rivnuts (didn't know what they were called)

    They seem like the only point that doesn't have a locking nut. I figured lock washers and some blue loctite just to ease my mind that it won't come loose under vibration

    Everything is looks good for now I just don't want to catch a surprise on a trip

    @Talon2006

    Everything was secured and tight after driving 500 miles and a trip to the snow. Probably over kill with the lock washers but I'm gonna have to remove the plates to install the nylon washers/foam tape anyway. Might as well just do it for the peace of mind

    Seems like that clicking noise is a common enough problem with skid plates of any brand including TRD plates, at the engine to transmission overlap point

    I'll comment back when that's done but nothing negative to report.

    I even got to add a few scrapes testing my breakover angle on some hills and ditches. Very nice not worrying about rocks dragging all over my trucks important bits

    Too many, but not enough....
    Here are pics of my valhallas with cali raised sliders. Pretty sure Talons stuff is practically the same thing.

    X2 on using washers or tape. I used rubber washers on all my mounting points for my TRD knockoff plate..
    20240914_110012.jpg

    Also like mentioned, proper torque is important. Before I installed the washers, I had lots of creaking and popping from what I think was by over tightening.
