Hello all, new here but long time fan. I’ve been getting an electric humming noise on acceleration for quite some time now. Sounds the same at idle and during all speeds. If I feather the gas pedal it also makes the same noise. Replaced the fan clutch as I thought that could be the issue. I was also getting a slight tick from that area at the time that seems to have subsided. Power steering fluid is nice and clean. Truck has 105000. Could this be a grounding issue somewhere? The truck has a remote start installed from when I bought it from Toyota at 35,000. It will sometimes act up and cause my blinkers to flash nonstop until I turn the truck off and lock/unlock. I am very worried it could possibly be a drivetrain issue. I’m stumped. Also, belt has not been replaced since I owned it. Thank you!

Topped off the power steering fluid, no change. Plan on doing a flush and fill for the sake of needing it.

Sounds like power steering wine to me, noisy pump.

I’ll replace the fluid and see if it helps. Otherwise, look at replacing a pump?

Look at acquiring a mechanic's stethoscope. It reveals what whines exactly without second guess.

Should be whining at idle too, maybe just not as noticeable. Have someone sit in the truck and turn the wheel left and right to see if the whining increases or changes while parked. Could be one of the other accessories that is belt driven also. Definitely engine speed related, so should be on the engine itself. Unless you have a supercharger you didn’t know about under the hood….

I wish I had one. Haha. And I bought a stethoscope. Idler seems ok. Should the tensioner have some extra noise because of how it works or should it be similar to a good idler? Otherwise, that may be the culprit. Warmed up, the noise isn’t as significant at idle. However, when I started it this morning at 48 degrees it was very noticeable. Still getting the same noise on acceleration at idle, while driving, and on deceleration.

CHECK YOUR ALTERNATOR. I though mine was a power steering pump also, very noticeable when it was colder Flushed the system twice, no change in the noise. Turned out to be my alternator, the noise and area the noise comes from can be very deceiving

If you are at a stop and it makes more noise turning the wheel, it is likely the PS pump. If it is with the accelerator, more likely the alternator.

Thanks for all the replies and the help. Changed the belt today, the tensioner hex bolt is stripped but it and the idler did not seem bad when I spun them. Also, seems like the alternator is going to be the issue. Anyone know how to get a replacement hex bolt for the tensioner? Also, getting quotes on the alternator job. The more youtube videos I watch, the more I am trying to convince myself I can handle it. haha
