Agreed. Tyson had said “Jake’s a manufactured killer. SM made him believe he is. I’m a natural born killer.”

Ya he looks like shit. Still has a lot of body fat on him, at least when the recent documentary of he and Mike were made.

I'm all for people having choices. There is plenty of stuff being broadcast that I have little desire to spend time on while others love. Personally, I'm just not that excited about the whole thing. Just seems like fake slop along the lines of WWE wrestling which, ironically, has been the trademark of the Paul brothers. I'm sure plenty of people will watch and enjoy.

I have been toying with the idea of West Virginia. Doesn't have too extreme weather, seems relatively affordable, not super crowded, not super far from the ocean, plenty of rivers, mountains, trees/greenery and laws that are amendable to my interests/hobbies (Aquariums/Firearms/American History(Revolution/Civil War)).

Things holding me back, other side of the Country from friends/family. While I'm sure I can land a job, I don't know if the pay will be enough to make it financially better compared to cost of living. Not sure what healthcare is like out there. Need to figure out how bad crime/drugs are out there.

Would definitely need to scout it out a bit. Not to derail the thread but if anyone has first hand experience living in West Virginia, feel free to share here or send me a private message. I'm about 2 years out from moving at this point.

I prefer a state that is the opposite color of CO...wasnt always this color..

We have to live within driving distance of an ocean (per the wifes request). I want something more affordable. I make great money, and feel like it's half of the amount I make. Stupid property taxes here are now ridiculous. I just want an acre of two of land. Part of the deal I have with the wife is there will be a separate shop from the garage. I will have it plummed out for water/drainage and powered for ac/heat. Fortunately, I can work anywhere. The wife, who also works from home, is currently looking for internal remote positions with her employer. We cannot lose her employer as it provides us free benefits, and a healthy pension when she reitres in 8/9 years.

It sounds woo-woo as all hell, but set up a vision board with the wife and kids. Focusing on how to make it happen will make it happen. A journey worth taking is worth taking the first step to ensure the plan unfolds.

The biggest hold-up right now is our oldest. Her employer will pay for four years of college as long as she remains there. That's an expensive thing to by-pass.

Do it. WVA is also a place we have on our "list." Gauley fest every fall; who wouldn't want that?

I get it, we have a plan to exit as well but not til the youngest gets out of HS in 5 more years. The girls have requested with us they don't want to move and we have discussed all the pros and cons with them, as well as without them to determine why we should stay if we honor their request. Unless things change for the worse we'll wait and hope the housing market in CO has only grown.

I hear all that. While I'm not old, I find the older I get, the more I just want to be left alone by government, regulation, taxes etc...and to be left alone by other people in general. I don't care what your politics/beliefs/whatever are, just don't tell me how to live my life and don't keep pushing legislation that taxes me more and restricts how I can live.

I'm a big freshwater aquarium person. One of the criteria I have considered are what types of tropical fish are legal to keep and can be sold in a given state. You would be surprised at how restrictive some states are with the kind of fish you can keep as pets. I want to be able to keep freshwater stingrays and they are illegal in many states due to fears of them being released in the wild and surviving.

One of the biggest reasons I loved owning a truck was the fact I could search and pickup massive aquariums for great prices and just toss them in the bed of the truck and go home. Good luck doing that with an 8 foot aquarium with no truck or cargo van.

This sounds a lot like my wife and me. She's native to CO, and she and her parents - who have some acreage near Monument Lake - reminisce about the good old days. We live in Castle Rock where Douglas County recently doubled our property taxes... as if being in our zip code wasn't already expensive enough. We've joked with friends how sad it is you can make $250K and still be poor.

    SO...

We're packing my balls and leaving next year for Northern Idaho. I used to spend my summers up in Coeur d'Alene (CdA), with family. I fell in love with the place. I took my wife up there this summer to check it out. One day while I was working, she went for a walkabout through my family's neighborhood and didn't come back for 6 hours - they live up against Canfield mountains, near Lake Hayden, so plenty of areas to explore. When she came back, she pulled me aside - crying - and said "this is where we need to be." She said it reminded her of growing up in Monument, and that she hadn't felt that much peace since she was a child. She wants our children to know that feeling. She joked it was the first time in years she didn't feel like she needed her gun with her while she walked alone, haha.

I can't argue with any of it, so we've been making arrangements. I'm now a director for a firm who rents office space from my uncle, up in CdA. Currently it's remote work, but I'll eventually work from that office. My wife is an executive for one of the largest cosmetic companies in the US - she has amazing benefits and we don't want to lose that. So she's working on moving to forecasting, where she can work remotely, too.

We're just looking for our land of milk and honey. Planning a shop for me and a she-shed for her, haha. I can't even tell you how excited we are for all this, and we're doing what we can to pull this plan off!

West VA is beautiful, taxes are not bad, no vehicle emissions, or personal property taxes. Federal first responders are income tax exempt. Downside is dependent on how much you are tied to city life.

Same exact sentiments. The good ol days of my CO youth, man how times have changed.

Super stoked for you to have found and planned your exit strategy. That's has to be a good feeling knowing that the wheels are turning and you know where will they will take you.

I think this one is delightful. It doesn't seem as acidic as some of the others I've had.
