Dealer was great and really found a nice way to address the paint rub. Had someone come apply pff. Not sure how they cut the pieces so nice but it’s very hard to tell/take pics. Sounds like they may repeat on lot vehicles too. It’s like the pieces were from a template.

Is this holding up? Or will it just wear through the ppf quickly? Unfortunately our tailgates are steel and not aluminum, trying to stop rust on my 1 year old truck…..

Nope. And I would not recommend it. Just ended up cutting into the pff and looking worse. It’s unfortunate.

As much as I love my truck, I really hate the F$#&ing tailgate. Whomever came up with the idea for this spoiler needs to be bitch slapped. Mine's a 24 and even with the rubber strips behind the edges, it still took off paint in the top right corner of the tailgate.

I can suggest a fix that worked fairly well for me if you have a Dremel or similar tool. I carefully took the spoiler off the tailgate (And then dropped it on the ground, lol) and used my Dremel with a small pointed grinder bit and started from the top of the spoiler and worked downwards about 3/4 of an inch or so along the side. I kept the curved contour, but just ground it down to increase the gap on the upper part where it tends to rub. I carefully applied touch up paint before putting it back on and it has been fine since.

that’s unfortunate. Mine hasn’t worn any paint in your location, just to the lower right on the tailgate handle.

Were you able to remove the plastic spoiler without breaking any clips?
Toyota has really dropped the ball on this imo. There should be a permanent fix issued for this. I’m more concerned about rust in the coming years as the tailgate is steel.

Sort of. They're a square plug that has 4 small clips, one on each side of the plug. They just pop out but when I pulled mine I did break one of the 4 clips off a couple of the plugs. Didn't cause any issues, though, and it still went back on just fine. The main problem is the spoiler design just sucks. They really need to make it so there is just a little more clearance between the spoiler and tailgate. I was also worried about rust so I wanted to fix it asap.

Anyone have an update on this? Mine is only chipping on the lower right corner on the tailgate handle. It’s getting worse and the tailgate is steel, winter and salt are here for the next 4 months. Need a solution from Toyota. This is absolute horse sh:t that this is happening to a lot of these tundras. It’s not rocket science.
