I was out bow hunting with my Dad and a few other guys this weekend. There was no shortage of beverages, however two interesting ones I tried that are polar opposites.

The Stagg was excellent and smooth, it didn't hit as hard as I would have expected for an unfiltered at that proof. For an incredibly cheap bottle, the VOB was very surprising and had a flavor i need to lookup as I couldn't place it when drinking.

 

Good nose and palate, a little harsh on the finish.

 

First time having Rabbit Hole and it was pretty good.

This bottle was unopened 5 hours prior to this picture.

Yes and no at the same time. Its not everyday I drink like that but when I do I drink too many.

 

A buddy got the full pappy lineup this year and held a tasting of all 6. Great evening. His BTAC showed up as well The 24 William Larue is excellent. I picked up a second tasting for Christmas

15, 20, 12 in that order. I'm not much of a Rye person but the 13 year rye is among the best I've had. The 20 is very good this year.

 

Last week I was able to try the Sazerac 18 year Rye from 2022 and 2023. I had never tried the Sazerac 18 before but I did prefer the 2023 year sightly more.

 

When I ran the line up several years ago 15 was my favorite, then 23 over 20...

I believe the rye is still a blend iirc (but predominantly rye); which may be why it works for you... I enjoy rye and really like their version as well!!!!

 

This was recommended to me by one of my local store workers. Pretty good stuff, cost $22 and I think I got 3 maybe 4 small glasses from it but nice to have on hand.

Don't get me wrong I love a good old fashioned, actually am kinda picky but this was pretty good for what it is .

 

Had a pour of an old 1990s Glenmorangie 10yr single malt scotch. Was light but pretty good flavor. Still wouldn’t pay $350 for a bottle though!

 

I'm picky too. There are some decent mixes out there, Costco used to carry Boxer or something similar that was decent.

If you visit a Wisconsin tavern or supper club I highly recommend a brandy old fashioned sweet.

 

Or go to La Cave in La Crosse, amazing smoked old fashioned.

 

This one is my favorite: not too pricy either Low in the peat rating. This is very smooth.

Picked up a bottle 10 years ago while on a Mexican trip. Going to break into it this year to give 2024 a big fat middle finger salute as it disappears in the rear view mirror!
