I stay subbed to them just so I can see if people that are asses wind up in it. Most of them usually do. It's really fun when a 3-4 day ban post gets followed up a bit later with a perma because the offender decided to go off on the moderators. Popcorn moments. Our mods put up with a lot from the regular inmates, so getting sassy if they put you in time out is a special kind of "special."

Congrats to you too! I am moving from a Financial Institution(Bank) to a private company.

Giving notice went interesting here is a summary of how it went down:

Me goes to bosses office - You have a minute for us to speak in private?

    Boss - Sure

Me - Sits down and puts signed and dated notice on her desk. Here is notice of my intent to leave xyz organization. I have accepted a role with another company.

Boss - Color drains from her face and she asks me if we can talk about it.

Me - Nope. It's all spelled out in the letter. I appreciate the opportunity but I'm ready to move on.

Boss - Ok, just stay here for second, let me go tell the Controller (office is literally next to hers)

Me - Hears mumbling, my name is mentioned, Controller (who is a toxic ahole) walks over with my boss to her office. They close the door and my boss sits down while controller stands.

Controller - You really quitting on us? Everything was going so well.

Me - I have accepted a role with another company. I'm excited for a change.

Controller - Is this related to so and so quitting? (Payroll manager quit and is currently suing them for a hostile work environment)

    Me - I received a job offer I just can't turn down.

Controller - Ok hang on. Goes back to his office and gets on speaker phone with HR and tells them I am quitting.

5 awkward minutes later an HR analyst walk over with a cardboard box, we walk over to my desk to pack my personal items of which there is nothing.

We go back to where HR is, I sign a couple of forms, they confirm my address and let me know I will be paid up to the end of pay period in addition to my accrued PTO basically an additional 8 days of paid time. Say I'll have my final paycheck fedexed over to my house on Monday and walks me out of the building.

Got out early on a Friday and will meet with my friends for a celebration dinner later tonight.

I could write that book as well. The last place was 12 years of extreme toxic stew. During that time I had 7 different direct supervisors due to the turnover, but only one death threat.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    in hindsight

those toxic environments taught me how to manage people and processes

by learning what NOT to do

    and I am thankful

I was only at this place for a little over a year. About 2 months into starting I could tell the culture was weird. I have worked in accounting/finance for 20 years and every place was slightly different but generally finance/accounting personalities are pretty similar.

I was lower level management here and I would walk by other managers in their office and see some of them sitting in their offices crying. I would ask them if they were ok etc...My boss was nice but the controller was an ahole tyrant who basically created a toxic place which encouraged other toxic people to make it worse.

I'll miss a couple of my direct reports. I did all I could do to promote them to other departments but I'm glad to be out of there. I was shocked at how often they got sued for hostile work environment/payroll violations. I cut a few 6 figure checks in my time there related to settlements and those were the ones I was aware of. I don't want to go into any details but they have a great rep in our community which made it all even more bizarre.

Same, I think. I worked at EDS as the 2000's started, and the management was shit - at least my last 3 years there. Now that I'm management I'm mindful of my behavior and that it doesn't get too cold or uncaring.

That is so true, and in my case I did learn what not to do, and also a ton of skills. I learned that I was more resilient than I thought I was, and then I relearned that over and over, often in a very public way. Now, I am just one big scar, which is fine with me.

    Thank you and thank you!

It has/had been a rough journey for a while. Seemed endless. There was a time when I made the kind of money that would make a doctor blush and I didn't think I could ever get knocked down. Well, I did. Felt like the only thing I would ever eat again was humble pie. I recently prayed for a miracle as I was reaching my breaking point. Lo and behold, I got a couple of them this week. The second one happened on the same day as the first one, but came as a phone call from a partner at a CPA firm I've been dealing with.

He asked if I would be the director of a new service segment they've been trying to grow. The last time I heard from this firm (2 months ago), it was from someone else, who, as it turned out, didn't have authority to offer me the job. Not this time. This time it's for real. It comes with an amazing compensation package and mentorship towards becoming a partner.

    I'm absolutely dumbfounded and grateful.

I'm sharing this because there might be someone out there who's also struggling. Hang in there, dig deep, and make the most of what you have in the meantime. I'll paraphrase what some wise folks said to me: figure out what it is you want, then do what you need to do to go after it.

A couple of those wise folks happen to be here in this very thread, whom I reached out to within the past year - just want to thank you again for your advice and support.

I guess this comes with some other advice - don't be afraid to ask people what they do to find success.

Now if you'll excuse me, I've some friends at a restaurant who are really looking forward to seeing my new dog, hat, and fancy flip flops.

Oh, and I always wear a baseball hat and usually flip flops (sliders) or sandals when I'm not required to wear business casual at work.

I have snow pants and various warm clothes. Extra hats and mitts and sweaters and the like. Shovel. Two snow brushes. Jump starter. Air compressor. Small tool kit. Bungee cords and tie downs. Ball mount and extra tow balls. Tire repair kit. Tire pressure gauge.

    I think that's it.

Ok... I've got what I think is a good contribution and compromise to this debate...

IF.... the establishment has a hat rack, then that establishment is clearly saying, 'we honor the tradition of removing your hat indoors and provide you w/a suitable location for it to rest while you shop'... In this case, hats off!!!!

IF... there is no hat rack supplied, then the establishment is simply saying, 'WDGAF, please do as your choose w/your hats'... In this case, hats on or hats off :hattip:

Good man. Snowbrush, and jump starter are in my truck too. Bunch of other small stuff as well. Oh, and a trauma kit.

I have a bin that gets tossed in the truck for trips longer than 2 hours. It gets a Milwaukee M18 compressor, M18 Fuel Impact Wrench, M18 6.0ah battery, tire plug kit, socket set, and a few other odds and ends. Trips like that generally see a 12ga shotgun and box of mixed shells put under the back seat too.
