Whatever this forum told me to do
    like i said earlier

I generally don’t care about hats

and, yes, I don’t care for them to be worn indoors

it’s just how I was raised

and as you said, it used to be a custom to remove cover. And now it is not

flip flops. Y’all know where I stand

race? Come on. I’ll disregard that one.

    it's not a thing. It's insanity.

So you expect hat wearing folks to walk around holding their hat that accessorizes with their well thought out outfit? Or at the dinner table in the restaurant now everyone has their hat in the way.

This may be the solution. I'll need to take it up with the county health inspector though.

you and me both. And why they cause such trauma in some?

Sometimes you gotta bring the heat.

But seriously, hats? I never thought we would actually be hashing out the differences on civilness based upon hats...

The snow is starting to accumulate here. The flakes when they first came down were some of the biggest I’ve ever seen, like torn up pieces of notebook paper falling from the sky. Dang I need to make a haiku out of this.

Wearing sweat pants in public is the one that gets me.
Ok if you are running to the store for milk or whatever but it seems like in the last 10 years they have become an acceptable everyday kind of clothing.
i work at a college so maybe I see it more due to the younger demographic.

I don’t think dogs are allowed here inside restaurants except for legitimate service animals, and that includes outside seating areas. Ppl will sit outside with their dogs and have them just outside the eating area so that they are on the public sidewalk.

    Dress up warm.

If you're driving, imagine you're driving your grandmother to church. She's wearing her best dress, holding a very full pot of chili with one arm and a very full jug of sweet tea with the other.

I don’t bring my dog to any business or crowded area because my dog is an extreme handful. My dog is a reflection of me and my shortcomings, I fully understand that. I am in charge, but barely, and not always.

Good analogy. In Texas when there's ice, most folks drive like they're trying to clean dirt from their neighbor's cars using their cars.

As long as you recognize it and do what you can to mitigate the impact on others, totally civilized and acceptable. ;) Give the pup an ear scratch from me.

Hats are okay pretty much anywhere. Nobody I know cares.

Shoes come off when I enter the house.

Sweatpants don't go beyond my property line, unless they're for use while sleeping when camping.

Elbows are fine on the table.

If I am wearing a hat, I take it off and put it on my knee while eating. Even when I'm camping or otherwise eating outdoors, unless I have to eat standing up for some reason.

Based on comfort for me. I will take it off if it's a bit warm, or leave it on if it's cool enough. Though, I do remove it when the blessing is said.

Wife somehow got the idea the the kids' plastic play structure can't stay out over winter because it will crack due to the cold.

So she put it in the shed.

    The unheated shed.

I'll chime in with my perspective on the hat and dog discussion. I think a lot of it depends on where you live and what people navigate in that region.

Fort Collins is a bit of a tourist town, so we get ppl from all over. For me -- it's about reading the room, so to speak. There are ppl here in Fort Collins that have a lot of different expectations. I also don't like making ppl uncomfortable, or worse yet have them be triggered. With this in mind there are many places where I will not wear a hat inside.

I am an observant person, probably to a fault. I also consider myself to be a moderate, and I believe in balance and calibrating. I probably also have a punchable face. I have spent a lifetime and career trying to be neutral, and I think it probably drives people crazy. I want to make sure I treat people with respect, but also that they don't interpret my actions as disrespect.

Indignance, Intolerance and Absolutes seem to be big trends right now -- these are luxuries, for me, that I can't enforce. So really I'm just a guy in the middle trying to navigate expectations and keeping my head down.

Agree. The sweatpants revolution blows my mind. This is the most horrific fashion trend upon our society. They are only used by me for the following:
    1) working out
    2) lounging in my own house
    3) driving kids to school, but only if I don't have to exit the vehicle at any point on my drive to and fro
    4) nothing else, even if they have pockets.

    Tracks.

I'll go split wood and bring in a bundle of kindling that I only use to start the fire. It should last me 5/6 days before I have to split some up again. Wife will blow through the bundle of kindling in one morning instead of feeding the fire with logs that will burn longer and require less interaction with tending the fire. Mind is always blown but of course I say nothing.

I live in flip flops and short until it's below 20° F, and I'm almost always in a hat of some sort.
