Here you go. Scratch me once, shame on you. Cool part about the latest Highlander is, you can adjust how far the rear gate opens. Just press the button to stop at the preferred height, then press and hold the button for 4-5 seconds and it’ll remember that height. Sadly, the required height prior to rigging this up is the exact height where I whack my head into the rear hatch door.

Inflation. The cost of the certificates now are $233. Cost of 1 tire is $312. So I was a little off.

Math still doesn't check out for me since I'm not out destroying tires. If I had purchased the certs for my current tires, I would have lost that money since I never destroyed one.

Since you keep destroying tires, it makes sense for you.

Discount Tire makes money on people buying these certificates because the average person doesn't actually use them.

I'm back n forth between the Kenda Klever 35x10.5r17 or a few 35x11.5r17 that I can get for Discount Tire.

The cost of four certs is about $233. I think that's what you meant.
And I was thinking the same thing as you. It's a good thing enough people buy into insurance, because I'm getting my money's worth. Lots of liquid courage + rocks + time will shred a few tires haha :D

I guess if you buy one tire separately, then you could try to capitalize on it, but they'd likely catch on after the second try haha

Not sure about Discount but Tire Rack lists the serial number of each tire on the warranty.

Correct. The 4 certificates cost $233. So if I destroy 1 tires I only actually saved $79. I'm betting discount tire is still profitable at that point. The savings stack up if you destroy 2. They know most people won't keep driving over police spike strips like you. :p

I'll roll the dice and go without. Just like I don't buy extended warranties on things like applicaces when I'm asked. If it was a great deal for the customer, they wouldn't push it so hard.

Insurance is just playing the odds.
Some people pay in and get nothing, while others get their money worth, a few might even get rich.

I forgot where I saw a comparison between casinos and insurance, but it made it all make sense haha

Up until my recent run of tire problems, I’ve been pretty lucky with tires. But that’s all it is, luck. Guess mine ran out.

    Weight reduction, mostly rust.
After our brush with the tornado here I had my neighbor (roofing sales guy) draw up a quote for the damage/repairs.
More than once when we were talking I was like "wait what?, what did you just say?" "That seems shady AF".
He was like "This is how its done".
EDIT: Segway being Ins companies are the ones getting rich, and I witnessed the sketchy way we have opperate to get what they pay for.

Woke up for a 2nd time to lights coming from the youngest's room. 1st time @ 1:30am, walked over, turned his light out (he likes sleeping w/corner lights on sometimes), TAP, and crashed. 2nd time @3:15ish, guess he turned the light on again and fell back asleep, turned them off, couldn't get back to sleep for the life of me. After 15-20min of tossing and turning, hopped on the phone to get my mind off everything. Finally crashed back out around 4:30.

Sleep cycles have been FUBAR for me going back to July-ish.

I mean, last time I ended up buying certs on my tires, I definitely got my money's worth, but what I'll say is, they probably came close to breaking even. I still coughed up $40-50 for that $175 tire. Not only did they make me buy the cert for the new tire, but I also had to pay mount & balance. That was at least 15 years ago though, program may've changed since.

With DT you just pay for a new cert and that's it

It may depend on the particular store and/or state.

I used the certificate to replace a tire in 2020 and had same experience as @shifty` -- had to buy new certificate and pay for the mount and balance. DT said the certificate only covered the cost of the tire. They showed me the "certificate" that comes with the tires when you buy them, and it does state that it covers the cost of the tire and wheel weights. There is no language on the sheet to include or exclude the mount and balance cost.

Understandable. I was up at 5 to take a leak, and layer there for 20 minutes. Fuck it, the forum and dank memes it is. That's a typical Friday though.

I bought thru DT. I know when I bought them because of timestamped pic, it was back in 2006. Maybe it was different back then, or maybe my loc store was skimming me to over labor. :notsure:

It sucks, I stopped being able to make it thru the night consistently w/o having to wake up and TAP in the middle of the night my late 30s / early 40s. I have to stop drinking anything at 9pm if I plan to not hafta get up at some point. Sucks.

My sleep has been messed up for years. Woke up at 1:42am to my 6yo son opening the door and saying the smoke alarm was going off (it wasn't, he just didn't want to be alone... and he went back to bed). My 4yo daughter woke me up once too... Looking forward to a couple years from now when they sleep through the night.
