The worst is the guys who send out a pre read then read everything that's in it word for word so slowly and painfully it's as if they're just seeing it for the first time.

Me: Pre read went out 2 weeks ago. Any questions or discussion? No? Good. Next.

 

I do feel bad when I'm running late and don't have time to shovel my nice neighbour's walk for him.

I feel less bad about not doing it for the lazy renters on the other side.

 

Sadly this is pretty common, particularly with the younger generation.

 

I even tried to save one. He even liked my post that warned him!

 

I'm not sure if it's worth defending the point I was trying to make, but the unshared portion of my story went like this:

I opened my garage door and saw him cleaning off his wife's car. He saw me with my snow shovel, so I made a quick joke about the snow. It went south from there as he attempted to provoke me into a conversation that didn't need to be had. He caught on that I wasn't going to bite and we both went back to what we were doing.

It wasn't until I had shoveled between my wife's and my vehicles, making it toward our sidewalk, where I saw his cathartic snow pile on my "side" of the sidewalk.

The removed snow wasn't in his yard.

It wasn't shoveled into the street.

What it was, was obvious.

I suppose my point of sharing on the forum is mostly for my own catharsis. I like it here because it's not an echo chamber of thought, and my thought today was "WTF - why can't we be different and still get along."

 

You should bake some cookies and take them over. Show that there's no animosity. I miss the days when everyone was an American first and could set aside the party stuff after an election, regardless of the outcome.

88th & Huron. When you posted the other day about the crash and the crossroads, I was like hey, I know that area...


It has changed dramatically since I left in 91 though.

 

That's basically my age. Early 40's. Just looking around folks in my age group and they are more buried in their phones on social media than engaging in the world around them. Amongst my friend group, I'm the one who gets called when something breaks or needs to be put together.

I don't go out to dinner much these days but I am always surprised to see a couple or family sitting in a restaurant over dinner and everyone has their face buried in their phones. Kinda defeats the purpose of going out to dinner with others.

It gets even worse the younger folks are. I remember being 16 years old chomping at the bit to get my drivers license and first car. In contrast, my nephew didn't get his drivers license till he was 22. Just a different mindset I guess.

 

This phenomena of kids not wanting a license is crazy to me. My daughter got her permit on her 15th birthday and also started working. A lot of her friends could care less about getting theirs or working. She's keeping the old skool around in my family and her mother and I aren't even pushing for it.

also when we go out to dinner and even eat at home no one is allowed to bring their phone in the restaurant or to the dinner table.

 

Kill 'em with kindness! We're getting plenty of snow this week. My plan is to get up even earlier than him and shovel both our walks.

I look at it like this: I can't say for certain why he did what he did, but the circumstances surrounding it lead me a certain way. If I retaliate, and am wrong, now I'm the ass. If I retaliate and am right, it confirms to him he got to me, and would likely perpetuate a needless problem.

I've got nothing to prove. If push came to shove, I'm a 6'2" 240lb gun toting proud American, and he's a 5'9" 160lb IPA salesman from Chicago. I'd rather just take it on the chin, and continue to treat him the way I've always treated him - with decency & respect.
