If you had a failed engine and had a short block replacement, will it be replaced as part of the recall?

Will any warranty be in place after the engine replacement if it is past 60K on the vehicle's odometer?

Yes. A short block replacement does not constitute the recall being fulfilled.

Warranty for the replacement engine assembly is unknown at this point in time.

Does anyone have the part number for this long block? I’m curious what the replacement cost of this long block will be (compared to domestic 1/2 ton alternatives).

Toyota posted another document on NHTSA website dated: October 23, 2024 regarding the engine recall.

And the hybrids missed this recall again!

They are planning to phase the recall remedy starting in December and running in 4 phases. I would think this would be started closer to the engine plant(s) and fan out from there, Mainly due to shipping logistics but that's just my guess.

I think this will be available in my area in the Spring or Summer of 2025.

Some people have already gotten new engines via this recall. Slow roll out tests i suppose before they go all out.

@PBNB Thanks for that. Did you notice there are 4 different "Engine Assembly" part numbers list there?

Which part(s)? Dated October 23rd? Posted after that as I have been checking that site for updates frequently.

I have no idea what these represent but I am guessing that the first 2 are for the Tundra??

After a quick check at Sparks Parts, it 19000-F4020 has been replaced with 19000-F4030. The other numbers don't work at Sparks.

So after a bit of googling it looks like we started with 19000-F4010 which is no longer available but points to 19000-F4020 as a replacement. Then that newer part number has been replaced with 19000-F4030 at least on Sparks Parts.

Maybe we will see the 19000-F4030 as the engine for this recall? I am sure that someone can answer that...

I'm guessing the second 2 are Lexus part numbers.

So when did the rod bearing part numbers start to roll out in to the Tundras?

Ho hum No news on actual replacements will start? Warranty information. So tired of this.
My MPG has dropped to nothing. (Warning sign?)
So I am renting trucks or SUV for longer trips out of town. Costing me money while I look at my truck that I absolutely love, but is a ticking time bomb. So sad Toyota.

Replacements have started already. There is at least one (probably more members) who have documented the process already here on the forum. Based on the recently released document from Toyota in October (from the NHTSA website here in the US) it will be a phased roll out for the mass replacement starting in December.

Some people have said that the MPG dropped significantly prior to the engine shitting itself. You seeing around 10-12mpg when normally 17-19ish?

    @sudobash

Fortunately I don't work for Toyota but this also means that I don't have access to any good information.

I do have one of these trucks and I am very interested to read some "new" news! Your news may help me decide my next steps with this truck.

Please enlighten me and others who are in the same situation!

    • SUDO BASH....
    • Sudo - Short for "superuser do", this command temporarily executes programs as another user, such as the root user.
    • Bash - Stands for "Bourne Again Shell", this is the free and enhanced version of the Bourne shell that comes with Linux and GNU operating systems.
"Bourne again", as in: Here I am on Tundras.com again. The truth had to come out eventually.;)
