So I have a 2018 limited and want to upgrade to entune 3.0 with built in navigation to retain compass and street name and speed limit features on the cluster. I’ve read that some of the entune 3.0 HUs don’t have built in nav and I would lose these features and idea how I can find out if which HUs on eBay have build in nav is the are part number that differentiates them.

So you retained the digital gauge cluster info like street name speed limit and compass with an aftermarket HU. Someone else told me the cluster is designed to only work with the Entune system

Yes sir. Everything is the same in the cluster. When you buy a head unit make sure and get all the appropriate parts. I believe it’s the maestro rr and t harness and it integrates everything. The key is getting the right adapters. It’s not like just throwing a head unit in like we did in the past when vehicles didn’t have all the bells and whistles. Yes it adds cost BUT you get so much better quality and performance.
You don’t have to get the one I did but get a nice hu that has the features your looking for.

This is correct. When you're looking for a new head unit, make sure it is iDatalink capable. iDatalink is the company that makes the Maestro units. They are an added cost of ~$200 or so in addition to the head unit, but they give you the ability to totally retain all steering wheel controls, customize them, and also the ability to access data that is available on the canbus system that is not normally displayed on the factory head unit. I have a 2021, and getting an iDatalink capable head unit gave me the ability to view extra gauges on my head unit. Aftermarket head units also give you the ability (in most cases) to easily add a front camera, which is one of my personal favorite mods on my truck.

Do all these after market head units have build in navigation and CarPlay or do I have to be careful to look for built in navigation units

You need to be careful and look for the ones that offer it. One option you might consider is buying from Trailgridpro. They have a bunch of head unit brands and give you the appropriate harnesses. Plus they can answer questions about which features a particular head unit has.

I got my head unit through Trail Grid Pro to 1) save time on my install as I was doing a ton of other work and while I can wire a head unit just fine, it’s just another thing to do but mainly 2) it ended up being cheaper than Crutchfield. Crutchfield is a good place to look and sort by features etc. but just always be sure to check elsewhere for lower prices before buying through them as they’re often not the best deal.

    Yeppers! Agree with all this.

Also if you spring for the Maestro RR2 (like $50 more) it's bluetooth capable if you ever need to reflash it or want to reprogram your steering wheel controls. (This turned out to be a good thing when I was having trouble getting my gauge pack working. It also gives you two programmable relays to control light bars or something.

My phone's nav on Android Auto is SOOO much better than the nav on my OEM HU was. I couldn't even speak an address, had to stop and type it in.
Now I just press a button and say "Navigate to Filipi's Pizza" or "Text Jimmy Mobile" or "How old is Morgan Freeman?" or "Play Jelly Roll on Spotify."

Oh, don't forget to have them add an HDMI IN port in case you wanna run a Firestick or something.

Not sure if the filters will carry over, but select your year etc., go to all stereos, and on the left hand side find the filter for iDatalink capable and sort by those.

The Daisaita head units also keep steering wheel controls and I believe the latest versions can access the canbus system but I'm not sure of their extent.

As far as fitment goes, for a "big brand" head unit, there's basically two options. Option 1 if you get a ~7" screen or close to same size as factory is just that, the install will look almost identical to factory except you'll lose the buttons along the factory trim surrounding the radio and likely the volume knob although some might still have a volume knob. Option 2 are the big ~9-11" floating screens like @SD Surfer above.

I went with a factory size screen to deter theft, otherwise I would've gone with a big screen. Just last week we forgot to lock my wife's car and somebody went through it and stole all the change out of it, and drank half of an already half drank diet mountain dew lol, guess they were thirsty.
