so I am kind of new to tundras but not yotas..esp 3rd gen 4 runners
so my 2002 has the v8 an dash activated transfer case, and now that its on it wont come off for months.on purpose... its a beater with a heater...and has been causing me fits as p.o. who I thought was a friend totally misinformed me on repairs and Maintenace. I dont do heavy hauling and could prob get by with a taco. dont pull trailers but at times might haul 700 pounds in bed,,,heating oil or water
however today a 2000 ac with v6 and manual transfer case popped up with 40k less miles and everything on it works and better records and its a whole lot straighter than mine inside and out
just curious on the v6 with that big of truck and the manual transfer case, is it the same as my j shift on my 2000 4runner ? did not see anything about it in the thread..." so you want to by a first gen"
regardless...this rig will get me through the winter up here...i hope....and in spring its gone..this is not a keeper for me.

Yes the 2000-2004 Tundra with V6, manual and 4wd are same 5vz 3.4L V6, R150 5 speed manual transmission, and I'm about 80% it's the same transfer case as well as your third gen 4runner (and first gen Tacoma). The main difference being the axle gearing. Since these trucks are bigger and heavier, in that particular configuration the axle gearing will be 4.10, while your current V8 4wd Tundra axle gearing is 3.91.

Then it's the same A340F 4 speed automatic transmission as 3G 4Runner and 1G Tacoma and your V8 Tundra, and I'm still 80% sure it's the same j-shift transfer case, but the axle gearing will be 4.30

They're different, no AWD/multi-mode on the V6 Tundra. The V6 Tundra manual transfer case should be the VF2A which is the same as the manual trans 4runner transfer case. Your 2000 auto 4Runner should have the J-shift VF3AM I believe.

The 01-04 Sequoias also have a VF3AM, but theirs will be different than yours. The 01-04 Sequoia VF3AM should be a forward/back shift pattern for H/N/L, similar to the 01-02 auto 4Runner transfer case, except the Sequoia has both 4WD and AWD buttons on the dash.

Bummer. The V8 Tundras didn't have manual transfer cases, but the 00-04 should be able to use the VF2A or the VF3AM with the A340F trans, so could have easily been either of those. I'd like to put a VF3AM like your 4Runner's in my truck eventually.
