Yep, they’re unique just so they can turn in opposite directions and appear the same when operated from two different sides.

There's something to the polycarbonate thing, I saw it online somewhere. Apparently Porsche headlights will spider crack to hell with an IPA wipe iirc. Some other cars too. Read too many iffy stories about several products I hadn't tried too. I chose ppf for these lenses because they are pretty flat and after I spent all the time on retrofitting my factory lenses and polishing I didn't want to risk running into any of the issues you described.
My buddy puts PPF on jewelry cases for this guys displays for all sorts of shows and shit, he sprayed IPA mix or straight on one a while back and it started cracking quick. Think they are poly of some sort also.

On the 460ls thing I think they can be pretty damn expensive for parts when need. Believe that was a CCN video I watched.

Finally got the camper in. The process felt pretty sketchy...but next time it'll go smoother. I was happy to see that my Sumo Springs still don't seem maxed out. I plan to add a little more weight to the thing, build some storage and a dinette (right now it's just a finished, empty box), but probably only 100lbs more.

I don't love the overhang, ascetically I'd prefer the length was flush with the bed, and I've actually considered cutting 1.5 feet off the back of the camper, but I'll say in such a small place already, that 1.5 feet makes a lot of difference. I'll likely just deal with how it looks. It's not so bad, I'm just particular.

The first time I loaded mine after paint I dropped it :rofl:Hadn't even camped out of it and I had to do some fiberglass repair to the door.

Looks just fine sitting on the tailgate, but having that tailgate "porch" is something I miss about the old truck.

Ouch. Yeah I definitely worried about that. I don't think camper builders still do it, but historically if a slide in camper was under a certain weight, they'd only give it 3 jacks. Two on one side at each corner, one on the other side in the middle. That's what I've got. Probably fine but I don't like it. They also didn't lift it high enough to clear the wheel wells on the truck bed trailer it sits it. Tight fit, and there's some wood framing up by the front that sticks out. They got hung up on the wheel wells. Starting pulling the camper and moving the jacks when I tried to get the trailer out from under it. Pry bar took care of that...took off the frames.

I'll make some wood blocks to go between the jack and camper, thick enough that the jacks will be able to lift it high enough next time.

I need to check out your build again. I pieced together tie downs from the hardware store, but I'm not confident with them. Used turnbuckles, which is what a lot of campers use, but they all said stuff like "don't use this to support weight", or claimed a capacity of 250lbs. I think they mean hanging something from it, but still...those two narrow bands of metal on the turnbuckle don't seem strong...

I feel like I’ve seen something in the past where manufacturers only have to produce parts for cars for 20 years. Anyone else heard of that?

No specific law except the Magnuson-Moss warranty act that essentially says a mfg must provide repair parts for any product costing $10 or more, for as long as the product is warranteed (IF it's warranteed), but go read the law if you want to end up scratching your head..

You need a ball joint press, full kit. You can’t just tap them out. They’re a bitch.

And any time you’re doing suspension work, disconnect the sway bar link. It’ll let you move shit around more freely. I see yours is still attached. I found the only reasonable way to get the knuckle/spindle far enough out to get a press on it is if you position the knuckle to be in the same line as the windshield, then pitch it out away from the truck while holding it in that (roughly 10 o’clock or 2 o’clock, depending on which side you’re on) position.

Good luck. I was sick the day I tried to press out my factor UBJ. I gave up after about an hour or something. Then came back another day to do the job. It was one of the least fun BJ I’ve ever had.

have the whole kit from autozone and haven’t used it once lol I’ll try the 10 o’clock position on the other side but couldn’t get it to fit so I ended up modifying one of my other pullers to be big enough to get around the knuckle.

I’m questioning doing the other side after this tho haha

My next hurdle is snap rings without snap ring pliers.

Those super expensive Torklift tie downs would work the treat, but like i said, super expensive.

I heard of this law decades ago, but the time period was 10 years.
One thing to take into consideration, if you bought a new vehicle in parts and assembled it yourself, the parts would cost fifty times as much as the vehicle retails for. That's how much parts are marked up.
But the manufacturers and bankers would rather you just buy a new vehicle every coupla years.

What’s the best tool for separating lower ball joints? And possibly same thing for tie rod. I modified my tool that worked but not perfectly so now it doesn’t work for lower ball joints.

Borrow the front end service kit from Advanced Auto. Their two pitman pullers are the perfect size.

Just inspect it carefully when you get it to make sure there is no damaged or missing parts.
