Hey all, I’m new here and was wondering how I could price this exhaust job I’m going to have a shop do. Me and my dad want to go with a true dual x-pipe, cat delete, and some flow-masters. Stock headers (is that a good idea), and some 3-4 inch tips. Any suggestions??

All depends on shop. I had some cats put on an older Chevy to pass smog in CA. Small private muffler shop. I supplied cats and a case of beer, guy charged me $20.

Good luck with the cat delete, super federal illegal. Shops can get major fines for performing emissions deleting work, check the news.

That's very untrue. It is illegal to remove your catalytic converter on any vehicle newer than 1975. In Tennessee.

That’s my bad, just read into it, it’s very unlikely that someone around here would fine me for that, but yes. I understand the risks. MABEY just a single delete for both decks.

What I'm saying is, you'll have to do the work yourself, otherwise the shop you are using is performing illegal emissions tampering and can be fined. But if you find a shop willing, question their integrity as a business....

That’s exactly what me and my dad were thinking… would we be able to get rid of them? If I can’t sell them that’s fine, but I’d like to mabey recycle them or something.

You're gonna need those cats. Or some cats. Is there something wrong with them?

Yeah, they’re about 17 years old and they’re leaking.

Steal right here.... I tried this at a shady muffler shop, minimum was a grand... I was like just weld the bolt on ends and I'll install them. lol.. Dude wasn't budging... so I walked away.

Condensation leaking?? I don't think they have anything to leak, unless you are misfiring, then they would be glowing red.... Ask me how I know.

I’m guessing they are rust perfed and leaking exhaust gas.

Yes, they are leaking, there’s been a po430 code up on my dash for weeks now. And I doubt it’s the o2 sensors.

Have the sensors ever been replaced?

You should contact @dirtydeeds for exhaust/performance options. His systems actually improve HP and TQ and are build specifically for our trucks.

His stuff will perform much better than any system you cobble together and probably be better cost in the the long run. He can assist with mild to wild, headers, catless, and any sound level you might want.

Genuinely curious, do they inspect exhaust where you are? Round here they look under there with a mirror to make sure you have cats. I used these, looks like a cat when they check

Where I am, they barely even care what you do to your vehicle. It could barely hold structure and you can still be on the street with it.

Don't they have an outer protective shell?? I would assume the exhaust pipe would leak before the cats would... Smell would penetrate the cab with the quickness if that was the case as well, since it sits, right below the cab.

Well, I got a quote from a local shop, $550 after tax, drops the whole exhaust including the cats. We’re doing a dual into an x-pipe out into two two-camber flow masters out to some 2.5-3.5 inch tips out the sides.
