Mouse, 2019 trd sport, magnetic grey metallic. You gave me 60k miles of adventure. You never once complained. You only asked minor upkeep. You did everything I could have asked of you.

Most Importly, you kept me safe. The insurance company said you’re totaled, and I thank you for everything. Goodbye my friend.

    TLDR Me failing.

I had been training for a marathon that day. Muitiple miles with about 20 percent of my body weight. Decided I needed to grab some food after last section of the morning. Driving, drinking water, wrong pipe. Lost control. Guard rail does its job. Summarized damage that totaled it (pardon any lack of mechanical terms/knowledge here) shaft/axle ripped with wheel, this yanked front diff and t case , and messed up frame attachment points, additionally frames side where collision occurred damaged frame further.

Sorry that happened OP but glad you came out alive and in one piece.

Question for anyone when your vehicle is totaled... Does the insurance give you an option to have it towed to your home or place of choice so that you would be able to part it out? Or at least remove parts that you've installed like for example, if OP has a brand new rear steel bumper that's in perfect condition after this wreck, can he remove it before it's officially turned over to some junk yard that's going to end up parting it out and making money off of it?

I ask this because I'm looking at this and thinking probably 95% of the truck is more than likely in excellent condition.

The insurance is essentially buying the truck when they pay out for the total, so it has to be intact. Until you accept their check you still retain possession, but it has to be a complete truck. In your example, you could put the stock bumper in the bed and pull the aftermarket one. So long as it's complete and insurance isn't paying out for the accessories, they don't care.

That's based on what others have done when losing a rig on the forum. I've never had one totaled, so this is just what I've read on the internet. Best bet would be to ask your insurance company about it.

That's a lot of energy... glad the safety mechanisms that were in place (including your truck) did their jobs!

The other option would be to 'buy back' the vehicle from the insurance company once they've paid out and settled all claims involved in the incident. So, essentially, you'd purchase a 'totaled' vehicle from them and then you'd be free to part out, etc.. It would then be your responsibility to dispose of the remaining parts/truck once you are finished. This is also the process that folks end up w/a 'salvaged' title... Insurance 'totals' the vehicle, someone buys it from insurance company, makes repairs to the vehicle and then re-titles it for use; but they are issued a 'salvaged' title so the vehicle cannot be re-sold w/o perspective buyer's knowledge of the vehicle's prior condition.

Example from what I see is the headlights. Aren't those kinda expensive? so good idea to keep all the factory bits?

His headlights are the factory ones. The insurance company expects it to be complete, so you could not remove those without a replacement.

After the accident the truck will go to the wrecking companies secured compound yard. A insurance adjuster will then go out to inspect the truck and access the damage. If he totals the truck the insurance company pays the owner and the scrap is sold to the wrecker for parts. If you wanted the truck back then you could buy the “scrap” from the insurance company and have it taken back to you house.

That truck doesn't look like one I would buy back. Unless they gave you a low number like a few thousand dollars.
no telling how deep that damage goes, I could see potential engine, frame, drivetrain damage along with the obvious destroyed front end components.

I bought mine back but the only noticeable thing damaged was the frame, so I rolled the dice and bought back the truck for 20K knowing the drivetrain may or may not have taken some damage. Other than that mine looks like excellent condition.
