I didn't once state I wouldn't follow the rules. I'm not above them, and I'm a rule follower... to a fault a lot of times. I don't like excessive/stupid rules though and, with my prior experience being that everyone had to be 3-4 feet back from the bench, it seemed like the rack rule was excessive. I was operating on the information given and my own experience, which has always been a separation of shooter and firearm, so saying I had no clue about the rules is a bit disingenuous. I was operating in good faith, at the very least.

I completely and openly stated that there could be missing info that could change my position/opinion. I asked questions to try and get clarity to understand the stance being presented, not to try and justify my position. I didn't understand the situation so I was trying to understand the justification because as it was presented I thought it was overkill due to my own lack of experience with varying range policies.

bold for clarity. Rules aren't meant to be interpreted as you see fit. If the range says it's what you do, it does not matter what you think about it. It's the rule, and those that choose to operate outside of it are showing signs of arrogance and essentially saying that rules don't apply to them.

    Agree.

We are getting along fine. Some topics bring out a lot of emotion. It doesn't mean we can't have a discussion around it though.

Disagree. I don't blindly follow a rule, and being willing to question it and it's validity isn't arrogance or a statement that it doesn't apply. It's critical thinking. Based on the info I had to work with the rule was overkill. Once the additional info/perspective was pointed out that info was processed and the assessment of it being excessive was reconsidered.

that's like saying certain stop signs aren't necessary. And you think they are silly, so you roll through them because you've thought about it and they aren't necessary. Then the long arm hears about everyone rolling through the stupid not necessary stop sign. How are you going to argue with a cop on this one? This rule isn't necessary so I choose to critically think about it and disregard it.

I understand that you are a critical thinker and quite well spoken. But that doesn't make your argument any stronger. If a range has a rule you follow it. This isn't the place to test the validity of why they came up with a rule. It's about their view of safety protocols and they get to set the rules. If you don't like them go shoot on a different range. And because you had no clue about all the rules and the entire situation the questions you asked @nobodyintexas and the critique to gave came off as arrogant. We're still dancing around that and everything else is just fodder for the masses right now.

Bold part is exactly what I would do if I didn't like their rules. I'm not advocating for breaking the range rules, but I'm also not trying to enforce them on people I don't know. That's why there is an RO.

Saying I had no clue is not fair. I have experience and based my response upon that and the information provided. My judgement was that I would not have taken it upon myself to enforce the rules, especially because my understanding based on what was provided was that the rule was excessive. To use your stop sign analogy, I'm not going to chase somebody down that I see run a red light and insist that they go back and stop. If I feel it's a danger I'll call it in. If it's a county road with miles of visibility and no traffic in sight and they do a "california stop" I'm not going to even think twice about it. I would personally be stopping at the stop sign, though.

I fully admit that my understanding of the situation was flawed, and that flawed understanding negates my critique. Just as you say it came off as arrogant, I felt the story provided came off as zealous.

To avoid further misunderstandings like I have had previously, please clarify the last sentence there. What are we dancing around?

Oh wow, the turkeys were just hanging out in my front yard pecking around in my wildscaping. I wasn’t able to get the camera up fast enough, but here’s a pic of about 2/3 of them heading around the neighbor’s corner. If only they knew I have a smoker that one of them could get to know better, behind my fence.

Yep. Idc if one is unloaded or not (even if I have confirmed it) I am not walking down a range with one pointed down range. Too many stupid people.

I actually agree 100% with every point here...

1 - If someone was charged with that. A - their car is (most likely) may be towed; or left. And someone will need to then hire an attorney to accept a plead or get it dismissed. Im sure there are cops out there who would charge with a summons on this, and process them....then the case would get dropped cuz its a kitchen sink of a charge. I will add, we (you arent) cannot compare a stationary vehicle DUI that someone has a much better chance of moving out the way for vs the .001 second it takes for someone to inadvertently pull a trigger.

    2. "also physically step back from the shooting line the entire time the range is cold." Yep. A good RM does this and is watching everyones position.

Off topic (kinda) but one time my (previous) friend was cleaning one of his many pistols. 10mm Glock, to be precise. I dont recall what occurred, but dude got distracted, came back, pulled the trigger to remove slide and BAM. Shot himself in the damn hand...inside of the house (he was in the basement)

100%. So much safer and more joyful. When I used to camp, we would all bring firearms (why would you not?) The rule was you can drink after you're done shooting for the day. The firearms are put away, not on your body should you choose to drink after. Just an unwritten rule we all had.
