Service Advisor mentioned opening a case number about this so I’m assuming she meant the TAS?

 

I've learned the hard way, don't assume anything when it comes to the dealer, get it fully explained or in writing.

I won't even tease you anymore, its downright disappointing at this stage. At least this dealer seems to be taking it seriously.

 

Luckily the dealer and service advisor seem like they genuinely want to help. I went to different dealer this time around and so far world of difference.

On a positive note when I walked back in this morning before I could get a word out she said, “I’m working on your loaner now”. They hooked it up with a Limited TRD off-road brand new.

most likely they opened a TAS case, yes,, thats where toyota dealer techs go when they need help, kinda a hotline to the mother ship and engineer. In some cases the mother ship will send out an TAS field engineer to figure shit out.

it can be frustrating for sure, but toyota usually will make it right, it does take patience .

it sure help when they throw you right into a new tundra for a loaner with no fucking around, etc.!!

 

Interesting outcome. I was driving my 2024 up a very steep incline (couldn't see the trail without the camera) in 4H, and I got a weird droning sound that came on all of a sudden. Freaked me out (I too have bearing failure nightmares). I stopped immediately, so only heard a couple seconds of it, maybe less than a second. Shifted to 4L, to increase revs and reduce load. Climbed fine, but slowly after that. Later, on other hills in New Hampshire I heard it for a split second again, but it stopped on its own. I'm wondering if I need to take it in to see if there are any codes around misfires as well. I just hate that a brand that has been SO good to me for 2 decades is now making me feel like I'm driving a mid-90's Chevy. It's not a cheap truck, and I shouldn't be worried like that. I love everything about it, other than the anxiety that I have now.

 

Now there’s a dealer who puts the Customer First!! ( I’m sure the Svc dept was like Awe $hit, hes coming back on a hook!! ) Glad to hear they stepped up. TAS Engineer will find something lame like a bent pin in a connector somewhere. Hang in there !!

 

Was there any wheel slip? Auto Limited Slip will make a noise like that when it’s trying stop a wheel from slipping.

 

Alright, so now I’m pissed. Dealer is saying it’s bad fuel causing the issues which is a crock of sh**. They’re going to take a fuel sample and you know it’s going to be “bad”. At that point it’s not under warranty and I have to pay for them to drop the tank and do what needs to be done. I read somewhere else on here another person had same issue and dealer said same thing.

Any advice on how to move forward other then calling Toyota Brand Engagement? Im ready to get rid of this thing tbh. I’ve had to fight and claw for simple issues , cracked seat panels, loaner vehicle etc. I have zero faith that Toyota will do the right thing. The service advisor even acknowledged that they were being told by Toyota corporate to stop covering the seat panel issue when it was first happening even tho they knew it was a legitimate issue. It’s obvious they’re being coached on what to say in order to get out of doing repairs.

 

I can certainly understand your frustration. Ask them for a copy of the lab results for sure and maybe even ask to split samples to your own lab.

just a thought, do you think there is anyway it is bad fuel, it does happen. Im not saying this is the case, just curious if that could in fact be the issue. You could possible call the last station you fueled at and ask them if they had anyone else call. But then you're trusting them to be honest I guess as well.

also, I would say ok fine, drain it and fix it, and then if that was not the issue, your going to credit me back all that right?

 

Hopefully them idiots pulled the oil filter for inspection and ruled that out.

There was a new owner who had "bad gas" on the tank that he got with the truck as new. I think the dealership refused warranty on a truck with ~400 miles on it. Seemed strange but that was sort of what I recall from the story. Try searching in this forum for "bad gas" or something like that.

 

I agree. Each of these dealers should have test driven the vehicle for several miles before returning it to you. If it were bad gas it would have happened to them as well

 

Long blocks showing up and technicians are probably Max'd out with motor swaps. I'm sure they're sending shit out for a second opinion.

I completely agree with your statement that the dealers and service managers are being coached on how to get out of doing warranty repairs. Happening to me right now also.

 

EChavez1986 I think you should call the last gas station you fueled up at and ask if they have bad gas. Best of luck man I have a 2019 TRD Pro and I'm never getting rid of it after hearing about all the issues the new ones have. Try to sell it

 

Dealer called today and “decided to go a different route” meaning they’re dumping the bad gas theory. They’re acknowledging an issue and have a field engineer coming to look at my truck. Not sure why they changed course but glad they did. The service advisor thinks it’s related to the already open engine recall issue but stated they think it may be something different. Either way they’re looking into it.

It’s a waiting game now.

Call Toyota advocacy. Tell them you don’t feel it is safe to drive. They will escalate your issue (they have to) and then the dealership will take it more seriously.

 

I agree there was a lot of junk vehicles made in the 60s/70s/80s, and sure new cars have awesome gizmos, but I kinda feel your whole point there ignored how good some 90s/2000s cars were. It was a kind of sweet spot era of enough creature comforts and features to not feel totally obsolete, but at the same time their quality control and dependability hadn't suffered as a result of excessive tech (or whatever seems to be plaguing so many new cars of today).

 

I had the same intermittent codes and symptoms of your truck. I knew it was from them changing my sparks plugs as it happened the day after. There was an electrical plug that was not plugged all they way in after the spark plug change. All good since.

 

Update: Dealer called again- they’re working with field engineer. Cam valve dissembled and trouble shooting. They’re not really sure on issue and going based on feedback from engineer. Looks like it’s going to be several weeks.

 

you still have the loaner I assume? Is there any thoughts on lemon law, or you are going to ride it out?

 

Holy crap! I just caught up on your story and hate that this is what brought you here. Welcome to the forum and I hope this is made right for you. As others have mentioned, I would call corporate and tell them you do not feel safe in the truck. With this many issues repeating, depending on your state, you may be able to lemon it. If they do fix it, I would dump it and move on as quickly as financially possible. I would buy another Tundra, but change the spec some to get a different mental feel on it.

 

still have the loaner. I’m in Texas and lemon law from what I read is pretty vague. I’ve considered going that route but not really sure tbh.
