Someone at Toyota thought adding silver OEM running boards to the otherwise all black (thanks to the Nightshade package) 2024 Limited would be a good idea... o_O

Well, my plan is to change that later today by applying Black Truck Bed Coating Spray by Rust-Oleum Automotive.

Please let me know if you see any problems with this plan (for the record, the black plastic step was removed from the running board after taking the photo).

Will update this thread with pics of the finished product. Wish me luck!

If you haven't already started, couple of pointers. Sand/rough up the existing finish, use mineral spirits to wipe them down, and then use a tack cloth to get any leftover dust. Use an adhesion promoter prior to the bed liner, and I've had better luck with Herculiner compared to Rustoleum.

Thanks for the tips! It's almost done at this point. Did everything except a tack cloth. Turned out ok after about 4 - 5 coats (and 3 cans). Still waiting about a day for the paint to cure before re-installing. But it does look good!

(Side note: those plastic Toyota steps were a pain to remove and even worse to re-install but after some lubricant and heat, I got them re-installed.)

I have the same plan sometime next week.. let me know how they hold up. I only have two cans so good to know I should grab another. Does the finish feel pretty durable? like it won’t get scratched down to the metal with normal use?

So far so good but I’m making conscious effort to step only on the plastic step and not on the painted surfaces. Nonetheless, I think it’s durable enough and shouldn’t scratch that easily.

I did buy and use 3 cans. Also gave it extra time to dry between coats and another 48 hours after final coat before re-installing. Good luck!
