There is a manly use for knowing about it. Shoot a bad guy in it and he goes down so fast it's pretty much an off switch. Or at least that's what one police force on force instructor I know told me.

Bonds are special between kids and their dad. A daughter (idk if you have one) has an entirely different spot in the father’s heart, vs son. Sons have a special part too, but it’s more of a tough love and more in common spot. Idk if that makes sense.

Sons game (he just has to remain their water hot since doctor won’t clear him to play the rest of the season) starts in a couple of hours. We are set to win, I hope. We’re currently 6-1 and going to play offs. Today, if we win- will make us 7-1; second in the division.

No daughters, but that sounds correct. He's 31 next month, so no more tough love - just advice where I can filter it into a conversation. Not that he needs much. He grew up right in spite of me.

Yep lots of advise for sons. I get it.
My daughter, I always tell her how much I love her and she is my life. She turns 18 in Dec. she wants to go to a club..with just girls. Told her I’ll go with her and sit at the bar (Diet Coke) and watch over them. I don’t give a fuck.

My son and I don't part without saying it either. If I'd suggested something like 'watching over' him when he was a teen he'd have rolled his eyes. Nevermind that he was a wrestler and all district D-lineman and didn't need to be watched over; but he definitely had an independent streak.

My son will be 28 in a few weeks, and we always say it too. Also, same about watching over him, especially since he's been 6'5" and about 285 since playing D and O line in high school.

With sons, I love showing him tools, and how / when to use them for stuff. I like him getting involved in that. I never had that growing up.

It was the opposite for me. I had that growing up, but my son's mom and I weren't married, and life and our schedules didn't allow much of it. We went hunting and fishing, and had other adventures; but household repairs and other stuff that takes time and patience didn't really fall into teaching moments often. He's handy enough now; but it would have been great moments if we'd been able to build a car or work on a house.

I’m concerned primarily with functionality. I’m never not going to be lifting things above my head. Groceries, paint cans, storage bins, hopefully grandkids etc. I’ll never have those on a guide (like the rack in the video or a smith machine), so the full body coordination of lifting the weight off the ground, keeping my core tight, and doing reps makes sense to me.

I’m not a body builder; I just want maximum functionality and strength to take care of my family in any context and before I get old enough that it starts to diminish. VO2 max is super important too. I’m cautious not to overdo it, of course. I know lots of people with shoulder issues. I don’t have them and I train to keep it that way. Stretch, warm up with bands, light weight, full range of motion.

Lots of competing schools of thought. You can get WAY into the weeds like with just about anything else

Over and backs, spider crawls, and pull a parts are great for shoulder mobility / stretches.

    Huzzah!

we have very similar health goals

I know more than a handful of ex baseball players that can’t run and/or lift their arms over their heads

I just want to be healthy for my fam and grandkids

today’s society is creating a shit ton of soon to be unhealthy humans

However. Just showing up to work out gets a big kudos from me. That places you above 95% of the population.

    Preach.

I did legs and deadlifts yesterday morning. My buddy texts me to do cardio with him in the afternoon.

I tell him I already lifted this morning.

He says ok then, perfect time to do some cardio. :D

I didn’t respond for a few minutes so he follows that up with, “you‘re gonna die early unless you get that vo2 max up.”

    :rofl:Ok you got me.

Went for a 3 mile run and did a core circuit.

It’s never not a good idea to MOVE YOUR EFFING BODY. At minimum, set a goal of 8k steps per day. Motion is lotion.

About time you got a new truck, I can't believe you've still have your current one. Swapping vehicles often is solid financial advice.

Damn that’s nice. It has the back roll bar thing. And MGM covers a lot of good territory in the female department.

Pretty sure that's not MGM. It's the new non-metallic color, Underground.

Yeah you’re right. I remember that now. They finally moved on from MGM.
