Yeah I kinda expected that to be the speed as well. But like I said I play it safe vs sorry.

    55... That's something I'll never do lol
I can't imagine a scenario in SETX where I'd need to engage or disengage 4hi at 55mph

Can't shift 4lo unless in neutral. At least on my truck... But in 4lo I don't go over 20mph

The way the snow drifts here you can be in and out of 4wd multiple times in an hour. Sometimes at highway speeds.

I've been unable to shift into 4HI above 40ish, but my speedo reads off, so ...
For me, it varies. Always a clunk *IF* I'm coasting during disengagement. It varies, it always at least feels either light, like I ran over an extension cord stretched over the road, or heavier, like I ran over a single rubmle strip (you know, the rumble strips they put leading up to a stop light out in the country?), which is a pretty significant THUD.

I think that's ample. But I've also seen tons of posts on Reddit where drivers, who currently can be the most scummy, entitled POSes you can imagine, get pissed if you don't give them minimum $10, or at least 20% if you order more than $50 worth.

Gig driving has become hustle culture, a a lot of these drivers aren't getting paid enough to survive without outrageous tips, so some will do anything to intimidate folks into tipping, or quietly take retribution if they don't feel the tip is high enough. The gigging companies are not only screwing the drivers, but they're gouging the restaurants on fees, to the point I'm sure you've noticed, a lot of the restaurants mark up food 20%, 30%, 50% higher. I did listen to an interesting podcast during the pandemic (2021-2022-ish), if I can find it I'll edit this and link it up. Hugh Acheson, a pretty famous NW GA celebrity chef, and one or two others were talking about how gigging companies are keeping the small mom and pop shops alive, even though a lot of the sales they're barely breaking even, if making any money at all.

That said, my very last job before entering the tech world was at a famous pizza chain. I worked the register, I worked back of house, I delivered, and ultimately became their opening manager. I was happy to get two bucks on a simple delivery back then where I'm driving less than 3-4 miles, which in those days would be equivalent to roughly what you're tipping today.

Yeah with the fee and tip I pay about $10 extra for the food. I NEVER paid for delivery until the last two or so years on nights, because I'm cheap and always pickup myself when I can.

I’d be worried that they’ll deny a claim if they realize I do 10x the mileage they think I do.

How much did that raise your insurance cost? If you don’t mind me asking. I’m going to see if I can do something similar.

My truck started bitching about swapping into 4L while coasting in neutral. I'll check my t-case fluid when i get back home.

You shouldn't be switching into 4-LO while coasting. Always stopped and in neutral, otherwise the buzzer will go off.

There was about a one month period where my truck was stuck in 4LO.

My grandpa had let my uncle borrow the truck for a month or so as his car wasn’t good in the snow. My uncle is not always the sharpest tool and somehow got it stuck in 4LO. Couldn’t get the truck to shift back out.

So, he actually just drove it around for that month or so in 4LO. He complained about it multiple times- stating that he couldn’t do more than 40 because the engine would hit redline!! This was probably in 2015?

I wish I could fully describe to you guys how little we cared about this truck. We had no idea what it was.

When I made the change it was around $13/month. I'm sure it's a little more now but definitely worth it to me. We've had a few members here have their trucks totalled and then be surprised to find out insurance doesn't pay out on their expensive modifications. You can't expect insurance to pay out on something that you were not paying them to insure.

Sometimes mine makes a disconcerting clunk, other times it’s super smooth. I’ve experimented a bit with disengaging it in different ways, the best I’ve found is if I’m lightly accelerating and let off just as I hit the button to disengage it does it pretty smoothly.

I’ve definitely been over 40, more like 45-50 mph to shift in/out of 4WD Hi when new. You don’t even notice it unless you see it light up on the dash.

If my truck is ever "totaled" again and is too crumpled to fix its getting the full buggy treatment. Of course I'll have to build a clean truck into camper truck 2.0.
