The guy is definitely missed here...

I've been hinting at it to him in other forums, but he hasn't addressed it. The stop sale is probably low-hanging fruit or just not relevant to him at all.

So for what it’s worth, Toyota has pulled the part # PTCCY-34000 from its ASG(Accessories Sales Guide) website. That’s the website dealers use to find part # and product info. This could simply be an error or MAYBE mean something is changing, like possibly the shocks will come assembled now and the kit will have a new part #…..just guessing on possibilities

I’m actually found a local dealer that had the kit in stock. They said they’d install it but their price was too high. Almost $4K just for the labor. I called around to other local dealers to see if they would install it and found one with a much better price. So I bought the kit from the fist dealer, and by the way is so big they had to use a fork lift to load it into my truck. Then I took it down to other dealer to have it installed.

Everything seemed copacetic, they gave me a loaner and I drove away. I didn’t get more than a couple miles from the dealership and the service advisor called me saying they couldn’t install it.

He went on about the stop sale and said he didn’t realize it until the service manager told him. Crazy thing it took him all that time to figure out they couldn’t install it. The left-hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing that some of these dealerships.

He gave me a story about the spring compressor not being strong enough to assemble the struts. That’s the other thing we keep getting different stories about the tooling.

Anyway, the next day I came back, picked up the truck and still have the part.

Think I’m going to have to take it back to the original dealer. Doesn’t seem like anyone is gonna be able to install it.

You might have to just have the front struts assembled somewhere and then bring the assembled struts and the rest of the kit back to the dealer. Toyota took the spring compressor tool away from the dealers because of an injury or possible death I do believe. If a tech at the dealership had his own heavy duty spring compressor, I don’t see why that tech couldn’t install it. Just can’t use the Toyota tool is all.

Revising the part # is exactly what I was afraid of. I got the kit on a big discount and likely would have to re-order at a different price. If the part # revision comes with improved parts or processes, then I'm supportive of it I guess.

The trucks with kits installed at the factory never had an issue. It's the dealer-installed kits (aka kits you buy thru Toyota parts store) that are restricted.

I don’t think the kits ever had an issue. It’s the spring compressors at Toyota service centers that do. They had a failure, and rumor has it a law suit, and now they don’t trust the spring compressors so they told the dealers not to sell or install them.

I’m sitting on a kit right now that no one will install. About to return it.

Dealers can sell them IF they have them in their inventory. It was indeed an issue with the spring compressor causing the stop sale. The kits and parts in the kits are good. You can have the front shocks assembled at a 4x4 shop or have them install the entire kit.

Talked to a different dealer and he confirmed there’s no ETA when they’ll get the spring compressor upgraded.

With a sad heart, I returned my kit. No reason to sit on $3.3K kit for an unknown period of time.

I’ve got some 285 65/R20 BFG KO2s that I’m hoping will fit on the stock suspension without rubbing. I think a bunch of folks on here have done it.

If I can’t get the stance I want, at least I don’t have to skip leg day.

Should have simply found a 4x4 shop to assemble the struts for you. Or ask if the dealer could have sublet the assembly of the struts out for you.

Between @Breathing Borla 's color-matched Platinum and your TRD Sport, the color-matched wheel arches are really growing on me.
Lift looks great!! 34's or 35's in the plans?

Yeah I couldn’t justify ditching brand new tires, so once these are worn out I want some KO3’s but I really like the factory wheels, so I’m not sure 35”s will fit properly anyways

Please explain ? The parts dept can’t sell the kit to me. I’m paying for the kit and it’s on my invoice . How is it that some can buy the kit , get a offdealer garage to put together the coilovers , dealer does the rest of the install and Toyota can warranty the product ? Yet , I can’t even buy the damn kit and install it myself ? I was willing to have them sub out the coil over install . I’d be more than happy to pay the extra . Damn just give me what I paid for or tell me the cheque is in the mail

Very nice! Who installed it? Supposedly there are no dealers in the country that can.

So all Toyota dealerships are independently owned. Toyota obviously lays out some guidelines they must follow but the dealers are allowed to run business as they see fit for the most part. Toyota has put the lift kits on a stop sale, meaning dealers can no longer buy them from Toyota. However IF the dealer has the part in their inventory already, Toyota can not stop that dealer from selling said part. Now as far as the lift kit is concerned, Toyota took back the spring compressor tool. Now I don’t know the specifics of why the dealer you are dealing with will not sublet the assembly of the struts for you, the dealer would only be sending it out to a shop they know and trust. Or if one of the technicians has his own spring compressor not sure why the dealership wouldn’t allow that either. That would be no different than the technician using his own tools to replace an engine, Toyota will provide specialty tools to the dealers, but your basic impacts and wrench’s are up to the technician to get. If the dealership has a “accessories” technician who maybe installs lifts, collar kits and other suspension parts, that technician should probably invest in a quality spring compressor for themselves so they are not having to share a spring compressor with the standard technicians. At the VERY least the dealership should sell you the part IF they have it in their inventory and send you off somewhere else to get it installed. However if they do NOT have the part on their inventory, their hands are tied.

Good explanation. But here’s what happened to me in the Seattle area.

I found a dealer that had one in stock and I got a quote to have it installed. The quote was way too high for the labor, $4K, so i called around to other dealers. I found one that gave me a decent price and booked the install. I then bought the part from the other dealership and took it to the appointment. They gave me a loaner and I drove away. Two hours later I get a call from the Service Advisor saying they can’t install it because of the compressor. I kept calling around and got the same story. I even found a parts guy that said he tried to farm out the strut install to another shop, but his dealer would let him. I ended up returning the kit since I can’t seem to find anyone to do it.

I’m glad some one got it installed, but from what I can tell it can’t be done in the Seattle area.

That does suck. I’m sorry that they put you through all that. Is there an off road shop around that could have installed it for you? Of course talk to the dealership you primarily deal with about warranty issues, but I do not believe parts have to be installed by the dealer to maintain warranty. Otherwise nobody would walk into a dealer and buy any part, like an alternator and install it themselves if there was no warranty on it. Or people doing their own oil changes buying parts from the dealer. Unless they screwed up big time like leaving the drain plug out, Toyota wouldn’t void their engine warranty. Maybe even ask if you can have an off road shop install it and bring it back to them for a “final” inspection. Toyota dealers sell hybrid batteries to 3rd party shops with no issues warranting the part should it fail….worth asking in my opinion. They aren’t going to make it easy for you, that much is clear. But being patient and polite can go along way with some people.

It’s like how 21TundraTRDPRO got the CAI done at his dealer, but I’m struggling to get it done lol. The dealer says it’s a “port install only” part which makes no sense to me, it’s just an intake lol. But I will keep pressing the issue, politely. It’s not the fault of the people working the dealership after all. They are just doing what Toyota says

All good points, and food for thought. Would really love to get a lift installed. I like the idea of have the dealer do a final inspection. There are plenty of 4x4 shops around the Seattle are.

I think I'm officially throwing in the towel on the TRD lift, I'm going to call the dealer this week and ask for a refund. If they ever do rerelease this, I doubt they would honor my original order anyway. I'll put the money towards a different lift.

Talked to a parts guy today. Nothing official, but his guess was they’d want these out for the new 4Runners in Feb.

Is anyone against keeping the stock wheels and tires after the lift? As of most of us I am currently waiting for them to start selling the lift again. However, I have the xseries which came with the 20” TRD wheels and I really wanted to keep them. And if I am keeping them I don’t see a reason in getting new tires as mine are still good.

You can look at my truck in the previous posts. I am keeping the stock TRD wheels, I love them. But I will put bigger tires on once mine wear out. Probably put a wheel spacer on as well

not sure why Toyota went with a huge positive offset for the stock wheels, I think the non-trd are +65 not sure about the TR ones.
