Alright, so here's the scoop guys.

I want to do the LED foot-well lighting on my DC. I've read the DIY write-up, ordered my LED's, have some soldering experience, I believe I should be good to go on that front.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075H1TVFH/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Here's where the fun comes in. I also want to add exterior down-lighting that comes on when you open up the doors or unlock the truck, similar to the way the cargo light and interior lights do.

I also want to be able to have a switch to turn everything completely off (doesn't turn on with door opening/unlock), turn on the interior foot-well lights by themselves, exterior down-lighting by itself, or both at once.

Is this something that's even doable? Am I going to need two separate systems of these light strips? Do they even make 4-way switches?

My first thought is 2 different systems with the down lighting tapped into the "ON DOOR OFF" switch. That's how I would do it, but I'm far from an electrical guru. It's very possible someone else will have a better way.

That was kind of my thought as well. I'd say that's probably the easy route, but part of me wants to do the hard route just to have everything all on one switch :frusty:

@RowdyRon did some lighting that is tapped into the cargo light circuit. I believe @BlueBottle might be able to help too, he seems undaunted when it comes to wiring things. What you're trying to achieve is quite do-able with one set of the strip lights.

If you want to have dome lights on but not strips then you will have to add another switch.

If you wanna do footwell lights when you open the door or when you lock and unlock just tap into the factory footwell light on the drivers side, its a mini bulb and they will also dim like factory.

This drawing should explain most of it. In order to turn them all on you are going to have to tap into your existing "Interior Light Switch". By using your existing switch you wont need to run a separate switch for that function. Everything else should be your normal switch, relay, and lights. You're going to need diodes to prevent voltage feedback also.

Yeah, I'm looking to do something like that. That part should be simple enough.

That does make sense, but I am going to be using just some LED strip lights, nothing major, so I think I should be able to just tap into either my cargo light or my interior light, since they essentially both provide the same function.

Oh god, I need to re-up on how to read circuitry diagrams... Theoretically, with the way this diagram is set up, correct me if I'm wrong, if I went to a 3-way switch instead of 2 single's, I could wire this up so that switch position neutral "door open/unlock/lock, all lights on", switch position 1 "foot lights on, downlights off", switch position 2 "foot lights off, downlights on" correct? Never to have them both on at the same time except when using the door or factory light switches. Or, I can go two switches, and have them both on at the same time, right?

Yes, you can replace the 2 single with a 3-way switch. With a 3-way switch your "neutral" = "OFF". That means when you open the door or remotely lock/unlock, your factory lights will come on, NOT your downlights unless you tap into that circuit.

So how many functions exactly do you want these lights to perform? How many do you want to manually control and how many will be automatic, such as opening doors? So please clarify this ↓

-Switch1: Off (everything factory still works as intended? Yes or No?)
-Switch2: "door open/unlock/lock, all lights on"
-Switch3: "foot lights on, downlights off"
-Switch4: "foot lights off, downlights on"
    -Switch5: Everything "ON"

There are 3-way switches (ON-OFF-ON) but that will only control 2 of 5 functions that you want. There are also rotary switches that will have more functions than you'll ever need but it's an eyesore.

Switch1: Off (everything factory still works as intended? Yes, no down lights, no footlights. Just factory switches control OEM lights.
-Switch2: "door open/unlock/lock, all lights on" Yes. This is likely going to be the most common setting I would use.
-Switch3: "foot lights on, downlights off" Yes.
-Switch4: "foot lights off, downlights on" Yes.
-Switch5: Everything "ON" Yes, footlights and down lights on, but not the factory interior or cargo lights.

The more I think about this, the more I realize how much of a wiring nightmare this is going to be...But could also be pretty cool....

Do you remember what colors the cargo light wires are? I wanted to tie into them behind the driver front kick plate or under the dash.

Thanks Ron and Roger! I'll post some pics of my newest project once I get it done.
