Noise concern

    Can anyone tell me what they believe this noise to be from? I have changed the Idler/Tensioner pulley and the serpentine belt. It started making this sound after I replaced them. I used Dayco pulleys but it was an autozone belt I used which I think could possibly be the issue but I don’t want to keep throwing money at it and not fix it. Could any of you guys please help me figure this out? I’m going to try to post it this won’t let me upload a video from a phone.

    Toyota is one of those companies where sometimes you gotta stick with oem parts. I’ll just leave it at that.

    On the 5.7’s, it’s VERY easy to route the belt wrong. If you haven’t done it already, triple check your belt routing especially by the alternator/tensioner area.

    I’m going to check it after work today, my dad and I did the job together and I believe we could have routed it wrong.

    It’s so easy to mix it up on this engine. Don’t ask me how I know.

    It’s crazy because it’s always on the passenger side and it sounds like it’s near the top near the top two left pulleys.

    I had to replace my 2020's alternator at 60K as the bearing went and it was making quite a bit of noise, more than yours. I used a stethoscope to verify that it was the alternator and not the power steering, as they are jammed together.

    Alternator's bearings don't sound like that.

    What happened to yours, by the way? Was it submerged?

    In my experience with other car brand, Contitech belts were a tiny bit shorter than the original (made by Gates), and they did not stretch as well. The part number was correct, but it barely slid over the last pulley, the tensioner was always maxed out, and the next thing that fails was usually steering pump. Unless the belt itself fails sooner.

    If it's something you have to replace every few years, there's no economical sense to use cheaper parts in most cases.

    I sprayed water on it at work while it was running and the squeak stopped, so I went with a Dayco belt which fits slightly tighter than the duralast does. After changing the belts my issue went away. $64 Dayco belt beats the $33 duralast belt.

    No, it’s likely COVID supply chain issues and bad manufacturing. Unfortunately not the only issue I’ve had.

    Just replaced two bad door checks last week. I have a thread somewhere of the numerous issues I’ve had. I’m at least a couple grand in fixing problems on my truck. Pretty sad for a 2020.

    I think it is Toyota these days. Maybe US Toyota. Both my pre-COVID Tundra and post-COVID Sequoia have small issues, like cosmetic defects or malfunctioning something that I don't use, like sun roof. European car would fail QA right on assembly line. But. As long as I don't need to spend days laying under them, I don't care. It takes me to the woods, it takes me out of the woods, I'm happy.
