It's been a while since I've dropped by the 3rd Gen threads. Sad to see, but not surprised, this thread has turned into a complete $hitshow of bickering. But, hey...that's what threads are for, right?

Back to the topic: I got the initial letter of the recall because I traded in my 22 in Feb right before the recall notice was sent. Hopefully, they start rolling out replacements soon. Did they ever have a permanent fix to the fuel line recall? I had got the temporary/interim fix done.

On a side note: TIL that Ryan's truck crapped the bed. Haven't "spoken" to him since he left the forum. That's a bummer. Should go without saying, but I feel compelled to provide this disclaimer: Ryan's engine failing is the same amount of "bummer" as everyone else who had/has this issue (not implying he's special). I know two current 3rd Gen owners who have MY22 and MY23 trucks in real life. The rest of the other 3rd Gen owners I "know" are frequent posters here. You get to know people over time. Folks like @Breathing Borla and others who post frequently. It's like finding out a friend had an engine failure.

No one with a 3rd gen has claimed there is nothing wrong! Every post I have seen, my own included, is 3 rd genners saying they are aware of the chance of engine failure but will deal with it if it happens.
Why does everything need to be taken to extremes? You (and other guys) keep referencing multiple sources. Multiple sources doesn’t mean shit if they are reporting on the same incident. It doesn’t make it more believable! That’s why Ryan’s spreadsheet is great. It’s VERIFIED failures! Not this Facebook Reddit Snapchat Instagram bullshit where there are 40 posts about the same failure.
I got my first oil analysis back a few weeks ago and it looks great but I’m only at 50K miles so it wouldn’t help at all yet.
I used to own a 2nd gen and loved it. I love my 3rd gen also and don’t regret the trade. Can we not have some understanding for each other in this matter? Turns out not everything is black and white and most of life happens in the shades of grey between.

it sucks for sure if it happens to anyone. I think it triggers some folks when some of us say we aren't worried about it, which I am one of.

I mean what are we supposed to do, drive around with a truck we already bought before we knew this, which are problem free and just sulk over it?

but, truck forums will be truck forums, been that way since they started, will continue on for sure

ps, glad to see you've stuck around, come by once in a while, most of us are pretty cool, HA :burp:

I did have a serious issue the other day, my spot free rinse system cartridges ran out and my TDS got to 8.

had to immediately park and replace them

    back to 0, woohoo

And there's guys like me that are interested in buying a GX550. Same engine, less output, but still a 3.4TT that Toyota doesn't seem to have fully sorted out.

In fairness, there are 3 or 4 guys that can’t help but to interject themselves in to every post critical of the 3.4TT. The simple fact is that Toyota is replacing 100K+ motors because they’re defective. There’s a group of folks (current Tundra owners) who want nothing to do with a brand new truck that’s going to be torn down to the frame with the cab off to fix said defect. That’s not personal. Toyota screwed the pooch on the 3.4TT. No one is relishing in the suffering of 3rd gen owners, it’s a terrible situation that Toyota has created.

Is a Toyota going to make it as right as they can for current owners? Sure seems that way. But that doesn’t change some of the reasons (safety/down time, resale value, potential new problems created by a tech disconnecting every harness/hose/belt/ground/cab mount/motor mount/etc) keeping guys like me on the sidelines. Seems to me if you don’t want to read discussions about the 3.4TT recall, there are lots of other threads to visit. If you’re coming to this thread, be prepared to hear some negative discussion about the 3.4TT, because recalling 100K+ units tells us all Toyota engineers and the NHTSA came to believe it is a defective motor that poses a risk to the safety of the driver and passengers in vehicle with the 3.4TT. Again, I don’t see anyone here cheering these issues on for current owners. I imagine we are all hoping for a quick fix for you guys. I know I am.

Agree with you 100%. It is also important to note that not even Toyota knows how many will ultimately fail and, at this stage, the VAST majority are still running fine. Like I said earlier, I’m doing oil analysis every oil change to try keep an eye on the motor but it doesn’t seem like anybody knows exactly what to look for to predict failure.

Haha, I thought I was the only weirdo with one of these. I also use ro/di water I make for my fish tank in the wash buckets. Makes a big difference. Especially when you have a black (Or dark blue) vehicle.

Just took my 2002 Platinum in for a 30,000 service. Finally got the fuel tube recall issue fixed after months of telling me they did not have the parts. I asked my service manager about the status of engine replacements. His response was that he had no idea on the timeline, but that he had heard that Toyota had dedicated an entire line to nothing but making replacement engines for the recall.
    Still driving my ticking bomb

Just saying this as a sanity check. Be careful of getting caught up in an echo chamber. You can have 1 instance of something happening and all of sudden it gets picked up and repeated by multiple sources making it appear more significant than it actually is. I'm not saying that is the case here but when it comes to specific niche topics/events I have seen it happen multiple times.

ya, they are nice, I get a whole season out of them usually, Sienna and tundra cleaning

Are you talking about the mod to switch from cartridge to the down pipe? if so, no I haven't don't that, I kinda like the convenience of just swapping the cartridges and shipping the old ones back.

basically yes, works best with pressure washer like active 2 GPM

only use for final rinse though, my TDS is high at 300 ish so I only use for final rinse not for anything else.

understood, I like the cartridge exchange thing, pop them out, new ones one in, done.

I could see if you took those out you could fit a ton in there, but Im fine this way, they make it really easy to ship back.
